Elliott Bales makes his Little Theatre debut playing the beloved General Waverly in Little Theatre’s production of “White Christmas”. Little did he know that his service in the Army would prepare him for this role.

A Midwesterner at heart, he grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, majored in theater at Abilene Christian in Texas and retired in 2010 with the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army.

“I have watched “White Christmas” for 45 years, and I can relate to the character of General Waverly,” Bales began. “He is so beloved by his soldiers because of who he is as a person. But he had difficulty, like many veterans, adjusting to the schedule of civilian life.” Read More

•December 13, 2017•

Lovington Village Board donated $500 for Breakfast with Santa and heard complaints concerning a neighborhood dog.

Trustee Pam Anklam reported five complaints had been signed against one dog, and the village attorney suggested sending a letter to the dog owner stating it needs to be contained. Anklam pointed out that if the dog is vicious court action will be required.

The merry-go-round that had been removed from Tom Conn Park was sent to a new home. Dennis Garmon reported the piece of playground equipment has been removed because it was in bad shape; however, because Bill Harlin wished to purchase it, trustee Anklam moved the old merry-go-round be sold to Harlin for $1 with the remaining board supporting unanimously. Should You Question the Tax Reform Bill?

President Trump ran on a platform for tax cuts for the middle class and working people. He has also stated that he wants to bring corporations back to America and create jobs.

Poppies to honor those who gave all

News Progress

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
