Pressure—Four years of it. That’s what Lady Redskin senior Keena Baumgartner has put on herself, breaking her own school record twice and earning a second place finish in the state…twice.

A two-run homer in the seventh inning by Brandon Yoder lifted the Bethany Mustangs to a 6-5 regional victory over the Findlay Falcons in Crowder Park Wednesday.

Sullivan High School students John Flannell and Vanessa Vandeventer will portray Arvide and Sarah Brown, respectively, in SHS’s presentation of Guys and Dolls at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday at the Little Theatre—On The Square. A cast of 65 will present the musical, which includes the music and lyrics of Frank Loesser.

Corey R. Weddle and Leslie Gale Phelps are valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for Bethany High School’s class of 1991. Wedge, who is the son of Linda Weddle, transferred to Bethany his sophomore year. Phelps is the daughter of Gilbert and Deborah Phelps.

Visitors to Lake Shelbyville who pass through Moultrie County may see a detailed map of the lake’s access areas and its channel at D&M on Route 32 in Sullivan. Co-owner Greg Ketchmark carved the wooden map out of redwood recently, painted it and designed a key for it to make it easier for lake visitors to visualize the lake’s boundaries. Read More

Sullivan Historic Facade Program Winding Down

News Progress Posted on May 18, 2016 by webmasterMay 18, 2016

•May 18, 2016•

Sullivan has seen a lot of changes over the past 10 years, and many of those changes are due to the success of the Historic Façade Grant program that the city developed and adopted in 2006.

The program which at its inception offered businesses a $3000 grant for façade improvements had zero applicants, and so the city amended the plan to grant up to $20,000 in matching funds for any business located in the historic downtown willing to invest in updating the appearance of their property.

By 2013 the program was so successful that when businesses outside of the downtown asked whether they could also participate, the program was revised further to include any business located within a TIF district. Read More
