Findlay 5k August 9

The Findlay 5k will be held August 9 with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Race time is 9 a.m. Registration, race start and finish will all take place at the Findlay Park. There is a pre-registration fee which includes a t-shirt and lunch after the race. Race day registration is slightly higher and will include a t-shirt while supplies last and lunch after the race.  Read More

Coon Awarded Scholarship

Zachary Coon has been awarded a scholarship by the Illinois Lumber and Material Dealers Association Foundation. Coon graduated from Sullivan High School in the spring of 2011 and attended Lake Land College studying building construction technology before transferring to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he is working towards his bachelor’s degree in construction management with a minor in business administration.

Taylor Awarded EIU Scholarship

The EIU Lynn Karen Adams Memorial Scholarship Award has been presented to Kirsten Taylor of Sullivan.

This award, established by Robin Adams, is administered through the EIU Foundation and presented to a full-time EIU student majoring in psychology. Recipient must have transferred from a two-year college and have at least a 2.75 overall GPA. Financial need is not a consideration. Read More

Lake Shelbyville Dove Hunt Applications Available

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville will conduct a dove hunt on opening day of dove season, September 1, at Wilborn Creek Dove Field. Two hunts will take place, one 6-11 a.m. and one 2-7 p.m.  A permit is required to participate in the hunt on opening day. Permit applications may be picked up at the Lake Shelbyville Project Office 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday or obtained online at http://tinyurl.com/LakeShelbyville-Hunting.  Read More

Workshop Series to be Held for Those with Diabetes

Take Charge of Your Diabetes: The Diabetes Self-Management Program is designed to teach diabetics tools and techniques to help patients become better health managers. The University of Illinois Extension and Douglas County Health Department have teamed up with Jarman Center to provide this program locally. “Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
