Donate to the America’s Farmers Food Drive to benefit local food pantries

Decatur–Nearly 15 percent of households in Illinois face food insecurity, which amounts to an estimated two million people, according to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization. Families in these farming communities are often busy helping to feed the world but do not have access to enough food to sustain a healthy lifestyle for themselves. Thanks to the upcoming America’s Farmers Food Drive, rural households across the state of Illinois will soon see food on their own tables.

Labor Picnic Honors Union Members

Charleston—Current and former union members and their families in the area covered by the Mideastern Illinois Labor Council are invited to attend the 36th annual Labor Picnic from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 24, at Fox Ridge State Park seven miles south of Charleston on Illinois Route 130. The free dinner will feature roast beef, hot dogs, vegetarian burgers, potato salad, baked beans, slaw, garden vegetables, and fresh-baked doughnuts.

Open House to Update Public on Center School’s Renovations

The Great Pumpkin Patch (TGPP) is hosting an open house on 6-7 p.m. Monday, August 12 for Center School, the historic 1912 one-room schoolhouse that resides at The Great Pumpkin Patch. The open house will be at Center School and will allow those interested in its history to see the progress to date on its restoration.

Blue Dolphins Reverse Raffle

A reverse raffle fundraiser will be held September 14 at the Max J. Knight Building at Mason Point. Six cash prize winners will be announced, including a top prize that could reach $5,000. Two other winners will receive $500, while four will receive $200. Additional items will also be raffled onsite.

Third Annual Mattoon to Peoria Run for St. Jude this Friday

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
