Mr. and Mrs. Claus were set up at the intersection of Jackson Street and Route 32 last week to spread Christmas cheer. They sat at the intersection during the morning to wave at cars.

Hector Charged with Aggravated Arson and Criminal Damage to Property

Clint A. Hector, 37, of Sullivan, charged with aggravated arson, a Class X felony and criminal damage to property, a Class 3 felony, appeared in court Monday for a preliminary hearing.
According to a probable cause affidavit by Officer Bryce Farris, on November 29 at 11:52 pm CECOM dispatched a structure fire at 17 Chad Ave in Sullivan. While en route, Officer Johnson advised that he was on scene and observed a shed in the backyard of 17 Chad Ave to be fully involved. Read More

Santa Arrives in Findlay
Santa Claus waves from a Findlay Fire Department truck as he travels through Findlay on Saturday. Starting at 4 pm that day a parade of fire department vehicles made their way through town with sirens going and traveled several streets in Findley with the jolly man himself waving and occasionally stopping for photos with children.

Thirteen ladies surprised Virginia Brooks at her home in Lovington last Thursday night by social distance Christmas caroling in her driveway. Brooks used to direct their singing group “Heartland Harmony” and the ladies decided that they wanted to do something special since it is the holiday season. Five-Year-Old Boy Makes Christmas Cards for Nursing Home and Group Home Residents

Harrison Golden, 5, holds up Christmas cards that he made for nursing home and group home residents for Christmas. With a little help from others he was able to make and deliver 340 cards to nursing homes and group homes in Sullivan last week.

This Christmas will be different in many ways, but for those residing in nursing homes and group homes the holiday may be lonelier than usual. One little boy in Sullivan is making the holidays brighter for those residents.
Harrison Golden, 5, and his family were quarantined in November and to occupy their time they talked about Christmas cards and how those in nursing homes will be isolated this holiday. Harrison was struggling to understand why he couldn’t see his grandma, his friends or go to school. Read More

Moultrie County Man Receives 5 Year Prison Sentence

William R. Elder, 30, has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
On December 8, Judge Jeremy Richey accepted a plea in which Elder pled guilty to the offense of Aggravated Battery, a Class 2 Felony, Moultrie County case 20-CF-60. Read More

Board Re-appoints Barringer As Supervisor of Assessments

The Moultrie County Board unanimously voted to reappoint Lori Barringer as the Supervisor of Assessments for a term of December 1, 2020 to November 30, 2024 during last Thursday’s meeting.
The board approved the preliminary engineering agreement with Fuhrmann Engineering for the Dora Bridge Project which involves a bridge approximately five miles east of Dalton City on County Road 575E. The agreement included right-of-way and specifications as well as duties. Read More

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
