Sullivan City Council Holds Special Meeting

The Sullivan City Council held a special meeting in closed session Monday, December 21 to interview candidates for the position of interim Commissioner of Streets and Public Improvements.
After returning from closed session, the council appointed Doug Booker as interim Commissioner of Streets and Public Improvements. He will serve until May 10, 2021, and there will be a person elected at the consolidated general election on April 6 to fill the remaining two years of the term. Read More

The French family once again gave away bikes to children at Sullivan Elementary School. Pictured is Joc French with his children McKenzie and Destynee French and the two bike giveaway recipients Caiden Steinhour, third grade and Paislee Schiefelbein, kindergarten. Bikes were donated by Joc and Amanda French.

An area pilot has now given more than 1,500 young people a free demonstration airplane ride as part of the EAA “Young Eagles” program which is introducing a new generation to the world of flight. Among the more than 50,000 volunteers around the world that have donated their time and aircraft to the effort is John Durbin of Lovington, Illinois.
Twice over the past two months, the Sullivan High School Spanish Club has collected food to be given to five different families in the surrounding Sullivan area. Each member of the club was assigned a group and everyone signed up for one or more food items to be gathered and delivered.
Sullivan Spark had a vision for a new baseball complex. The Park and Recreation group of the community action group Spark is proposing a four diamond baseball/softball complex with a concession stand for Sullivan.
The Sullivan Girls Basketball team finished 3-1 in the Knights Classic Holiday Tournament and Emily White was named all tournament MVP.
The Sullivan Boys Basketball team placed fourth with a 2-2 record in the Dieterich Holiday Tournament.
The Okaw Valley girls’ basketball team finished runner-up to Warrensburg-Latham and Kate Jeffers and Mia Harris earned all-tournament team honors.
The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball team placed third in its own Knights Classic Holiday Tournament in Arthur. The Knights finished 3-1 with wins over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, Chrisman and Shelbyville. ALAH’s one loss was to eventual tournament champion Mt. Zion. To earn third place, ALAH ran over the Rams 49-36. Read More

Jackson St; second place-Shanna Vaughn, 606 W. Strain St. and third place-John Brown, 54 Roley Estates.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus were set up at the intersection of Jackson Street and Route 32 last week to spread Christmas cheer. They sat at the intersection during the morning to wave at cars.

Hector Charged with Aggravated Arson and Criminal Damage to Property

Clint A. Hector, 37, of Sullivan, charged with aggravated arson, a Class X felony and criminal damage to property, a Class 3 felony, appeared in court Monday for a preliminary hearing.
According to a probable cause affidavit by Officer Bryce Farris, on November 29 at 11:52 pm CECOM dispatched a structure fire at 17 Chad Ave in Sullivan. While en route, Officer Johnson advised that he was on scene and observed a shed in the backyard of 17 Chad Ave to be fully involved. Read More

Santa Arrives in Findlay
Santa Claus waves from a Findlay Fire Department truck as he travels through Findlay on Saturday. Starting at 4 pm that day a parade of fire department vehicles made their way through town with sirens going and traveled several streets in Findley with the jolly man himself waving and occasionally stopping for photos with children.

BASO Car Show a success

The Bethany Advocates and Support Organization hosted its annual car show on August 22 at Crowder Park. The perfect afternoon weather bought out 52 entries and many enthusiastic onlookers. Greg Fitzgerald’s 1966 Pontiac GTO took home Best off Show honors.
