According to a police report by Sullivan PD , a woman was hit by a dark grey colored traverse vehicle while walking back to work around 8:45 a.m. August 12. The vehicle struck her on Jefferson Street while she was a third into the intersection, hitting her by the driver side front quarter panel and the side mirror. Read More
UPDATED THURS. 1:04 p.m.: The Illinois State Police have concluded their investigation into the double shooting that occurred in rural Bethany July 4, according to Lt. Greg Lindemulder, and will now await Macon County coroner Michael Day's inquest which is due to be released September 21.
After a contractor was injured at MasterBrand Cabinets in Arthur July 27, an Arcola man was found dead just two weeks later at the same location, spawning an investigation by both OSHA and Arthur police, according to Moultrie County Coroner Lynn Reed. Read More

Lovington brothers Zachary and Adam Day each showed at the Illinois State Fair Junior Steer Show two weeks ago. Zachary, 17, (above) showed the Champion AOB (all other breeds) Steer, which went on to win the Reserve Grand Champion Steer overall. Adam, 13, (below) showed the Reserve Champion Angus Steer Aug. 10 and had the Reserve Champion Angus Steer at the Open Steer show the following day. The steer was also the Reserve Grand Champion Land of Lincoln Steer.

Moultrie County, show here, went largely unaffected by the Mt. Zion to Kansas portion of Ameren's Illinois Rivers Transmission Project that was approved, in part, Tuesday morning by the Illinois Commerce Commission.
In its expected order Tuesday morning, the Illinois Commerce Commission approved the Illinois Rivers Transmission Project, including the Mt. Zion to Kansas segment that largely detours around Moultrie. The approval came in the form of issuing a certificate of public convenience and necessity, but not without condemning the 150-day expedited procedure, though legally taken by Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois to complete this process.
At the open meeting held in Chicago, the commission voted 3-1 in favor of granting the certificate to ATXI, with chairman Doug Scott the lone opposition, while commissioner John Colgan was absent. Scott did begin the discussion by clarifying that his office had four edits to the order, all of which are inconsequential to the Mt. Zion-Kansas route itself. Read More

Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford visited the Director’s Lawn at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield on August 9 and had the opportunity to meet Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Queen Christine Fortney.
The Arthur/Lovington school board was presented with two bond proposals from First Midstate and Stifel at their regular meeting Wednesday, August 14. The board plans to issue bonds for no more than $2.1 million to use for the purpose of building and equipping an addition to the Arthur elementary school. Funds from the bonds will cover any needed improvements, maintenance and repairs to the school buildings and facilities of the district. Read More
The Sullivan board of education gave Superintendent Brad Tuttle the green light to move forward with developing bid specifications for a new entrance at Sullivan High School Monday night.
Part of a list of security measures the district adopted earlier this year following a community meeting that was held on January 24 in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre last December, the new entrance will attempt to mirror the middle school entrance, featuring a double set of doors, the first of which would divert any visitor to the office before then gaining entry to the rest of the school, as well as other specifications that Tuttle will develop along with a certified architect.
At the start, runners were greeted with crowds, balloons, and a spirited sendoff before heading west out of Mattoon the morning of August 2 en route to the Peoria St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has aided children and families for 50 years by trying to solve the traumatic and catastrophic diseases that particularly affect children. And for seven area runners, they made an effort to help St. Jude do just that, by committing a weekend full of running, not to mention fundraising done throughout the past year.
