Ruler Donation

Photo by Stephanie Mitchell Ruler Donation Commander George Clark, along with Arthur Grade School student and granddaughter Alex Clark, presented the school with rulers featuring the Pledge of Allegiance on one side and the presidents’ pictures with their terms of office on the other. In addition to the Arthur students, Lovington grade schoolers also received the rulers as part of a yearly Post 429 tradition. More than 500 rulers were distributed. Clark is the commander of Lovington Post #429.

Meyer in State Queen Pageant

Submitted Meyer in State Queen Pageant Miss Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Queen, Maria Meyer, will be one of 74 young ladies competing for Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Title at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield the weekend of Jan. 16-18. Meyer is a senior at Tuscola High School.  The interview portion will be held Friday, January 17. The preliminary—which consists of speech, swimsuit, and evening gown--will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, January 18. The public is invited to attend and tickets may be purchased at the door. Finals will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, January 19.  The top 15 will then start over with all four categories along with answering three pop questions on stage. Tickets for the final portion had to be purchased in advanced.  If interested in attending, contact Sandy Hoke at 493-3583.

Lady Red Take Sixth at Sectionals

Submitted Lady Red Take Sixth at Sectionals The Sullivan girls’ swimming team competed and finished in sixth place in the Champaign Central Sectional Saturday, Nov. 15.   The team is made up of members Abby Cravatta, Michaela Donnell, Cadisen Nuzzo, and Brynna Sentel. All four girls earned points in their individual events, as well as the two relays in which they were entered.  The girls finished fifth in the 200 medley relay and sixth in the 200 freestyle relay, to earn 38 points. Cravatta finished 12th in the 100 butterfly, while Donnell finished eighth in the 500 free. Sentel, meanwhile, earned third in the same event.  Nuzzo took 18th in the 100 backstroke, with Sentel finishing third.  The team rounded out their scoring with Donnell finishing 12th in the 100 breaststroke. Sentel, who swam back-to-back-to-back events in the 500 free, the 200 free relay, and the 100 back, earned the team’s unofficial “Wonder Woman” award. Sentel more recently received second team all-area for girls’ swimming by the Champaign News-Gazette. All four girls are members of the Sullivan Blue Dolphins swim team, pictured above, which took first place at the 2014 Terre Haute Halloween Splash Oct 24-26.

2014 Tri-County Shriners Christmas Party

Submitted Tri-County Shriners Christmas Party The Tri-County Shrine Club held its Christmas party and installation of officers for the coming year on Thursday, December 2 at the Berg in Arthur.  The following officers were installed by Noble Ed Camacho, Assistant Rabban, of Ansar Temple in Springfield.  Nobles Tom Wilson, Treasurer; Charles Steck, Secretary,;Frank Lincoln, Vice President; and Jeremy Malin, President.  A check for $3,500 from the club was presented to Noble Comacho for the Crippled Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. The Tri-County Club is made up of Shriner’s from Moultrie, Douglas and Piatt Counties. Pictured from left to right are: Tom Wilson, Charles Steck, Ed Comancho, Jeremy Malin, and Frank Lincoln.
