Brothers Win Big

Lovington brothers Zachary and Adam Day each showed at the Illinois State Fair Junior Steer Show two weeks ago. Zachary, 17, (above) showed the Champion AOB (all other breeds) Steer, which went on to win the Reserve Grand Champion Steer overall. Adam, 13, (below) showed the Reserve Champion Angus Steer Aug. 10 and had the Reserve Champion Angus Steer at the Open Steer show the following day. The steer was also the Reserve Grand Champion Land of Lincoln Steer.

Carriage Crossing, an assisted living senior community in Arcola, commenced its five-day grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning. Those in attendance included several owners, members of Arcola’s Economic Development, and managers of Carriage Crossing.

Mason Point held their second annual Certified Nurses Aides Graduation last week. The prospective CNAs underwent an eight week course, learning the 21 CNA skills and other valuable knowledge. Sullivan firefighters Josh Qualls and David Welsh create vent holes in the home of Charlie and Betty Bolen. A kitchen grease fire was called in around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters from Windsor, Findlay, Sullivan, Bethany, and Arthur responded to the fire located approximately three miles north on Jonathan Creek Road. Extensive smoke and water damage occurred, but there were no injuries reported.
