Spaghetti Drive Thru Donations

Green Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Care held a spaghetti drive thru dinner on Sept. 4 with donations going to the Moultrie County Restore. According to Restore manager Tara Reed there are plans to build two new Habitat houses next year. They were unable to build any Habitat houses this year due to COVID 19. Green Gardens raised $1,038 with their spaghetti drive thru dinner. Patriots Day Ceremony 2020

Patriots Day Ceremony
A 9-11 Patriots Day ceremony was held last Friday at Sullivan Elementary School. The program was organized by Jennifer Hobbs, a third grade teacher at the school. Students sang songs, presented colored pictures to those in attendance including National Guard members, fire fighters and police officers. Mr. Tripp, the music director from Sullivan Middle School and High School closed the ceremony by playing Taps.

Fire At R. Callahan Construction

Fire At R. Callahan Construction
Fifteen area fire departments responded to a fire last Thursday morning at R. Callahan Construction in Bethany. Bethany Fire Chief Michael Jennings said that the department received the call at 5 a.m. Thursday morning. The fire affected the north portion of the building which was purposed as storage units. Most of the units were packed full. Jennings said that the estimated amount of damage at $1 million and said that the cause will remain undetermined. Departments that responded to the fire were Bethany, Sullivan, Lovington, Findlay, Assumption, Moweaqua, Tower Hill, Shelbyville, Strasburg, Windsor, Cerro Gordo, Mt. Zion, Long Creek, Arthur and South Macon.

The Main Street Cruise In Car Show in downtown Bethany this past weekend attracted about 143 entries. In addition to the car show the Bethany Fire Protection was grilling food and the First United Methodist Church hosted an ice cream social. Two Car Accident At Intersection Of Route 32 and County Road 800N
A two car accident occurred at the intersection of Route 32 and County Road 800N on August 11 at 3:47 pm. The driver of the Dodge Caravan was ticketed for failure to yield. The driver of the Dodge Caravan was uninjured but the driver of the other vehicle was transported to Sarah Bush Lincoln where they were treated and released.

Check Presented To Sullivan School District For LED Lighting Project
A check was presented to Sullivan School District #300 on Tuesday from the Illinois Municipal Electric Association in the amount of $17,993.74 as a rebate for their LED project at Sullivan Elementary School. The entire building was upgraded to LED lighting and the district should see $750 to $800 a month utility savings. The IMEA offers grant money for upgrades like this and for individuals as well. Electrical Fire

Sullivan Fire Department responded to a suspected electrical fire on Sunday evening at 5:37 pm in the 1200 block of South Hamilton. The owner came home to find the home full of smoke and the fire appears to have started in the basement. Two dogs suffered from smoke inhalation but they did survive. There was smoke damage throughout the home. Pictured above is RN Bev Coons watching while Dr. Florey (right) and homeowner Bobby Peeler (left) tend to one of the dogs.

The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
