Photo by Mike Brothers Helping Out Sullivan Middle School students helped SCED prepare for Oktoberfest on October 19 as part of Community Service Day activities. From unloading water for festival patrons to painting pumpkins for Oktoberfest SMS endured chilly temperatures to complete tasks at hand. Sullivan High School students were cleaning up trash all over town as well as assisting the Corps of Engineers with some projects at various sites around the lake and visiting all five area nursing homes.

He emphasized basic fire safety: Look for places a fire could start, Listen for the smoke alarm and Learn at least two emergency exits. Fire Prevention Week began in 1922 and is observed during the week of the Oct. 9, 1871 Great Chicago Fire.
