Homecoming Spirit week activites begin with American Monday on Oct. 1-dress patriotically; Tuesday is Generations: Day dress as class generation-freshmen: Babies ; sophomores: Tweens; juniors: Middle aged family and seniors: Elderly. Wednesday, Oct 3 is Tacky Tourist day, dressing as stereotypical tourists; Thursday is Redskin Rowdy Wear featuring red and black,; morning is day of service throughout Sullivan, afternoon pep assembly. Friday, October 5 is no school with float building wrap up from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Parade line up is 3:00 p.m. and it begins at 4:00 p.m. Football game is at 7:00 p.m. Saturday marks the completion of Homecoming week activities with the 7:00 p.m. Homecoming Coronation and dance from 7:00 - 10:00. p.m.

Three students from Okaw Valley High School attended the Millikin Vocal Fest. The girls spent two days with some of the best high school singers in the area ending with a concert at the Kirkland Fine Arts Building. The OV Chorus is directed by Kathy Doty. The Moultrie County Republican Party opened party headquarters on S. Hamilton Street last week. Attending were from left: County Board candidate Arlene Aschermann, Circuit Clerk candidate Christa Helmuth, State’s Attorney candidate Tracy Weaver, County Treasurer candidate Stephanie Helmuth, Sixth Circuit judge candidate Randy Rosenbaum, Sixth Circuit judge candidate Roger Webber, Resident Sixth Circuit judge candidate Jeremy Richey, County chair and board candidate Dave McCabe, Moultrie County Sheriff Chris Sims and County Board candidate Neil Bryan.

Honor Drive Exceeds Goal
From her mother Stephanie’s lap, River Helmuth blows kisses to those who participated in her Honor Blood Drive September 15 at the Sullivan American Legion. With 104 donors, the drive exceeded its goal of 100 and coordinator Jeri Davis received a special certificate from the American Red Cross.

Arthur Cheese Fest Visitors
Sean and Bailey Clark of Sullivan brought grandmother Tari Howard and family to the Arthur Cheese Festival over the weekend. Nephew Jensen Howard, 5; daughter Brooklynn Clark, 5 and niece Joslynn Howard, 3, all waited for and received free cheese. The family spent their time eating lunch (fried macaroni was a favorite), getting free cheese and visiting the petting zoo.

Democratic candidates attending the spaghetti dinner hosted by the Moultrie County Democrat Party Sept. 14 at Sullivan American Legion Post 68 . From left County Board candidate Gary Smith, Sixth Circuit judge candidate Ramona Sullivan, U.S. District 15 Congressional candidate Kevin Gaither, Circuit Clerk Beth Pruitt, Sixth Circuit judge candidate Chad Beckett, County Clerk Georgia England, County board candidate Steve Mayberry, and County Treasurer candidate Diane Waggoner. Glenn Poshard, retired U.S. Congressman, was the headline speaker and gave an impassioned speech calling for a return to a time when those at home and abroad could trust America to keep promises, commitments and treaties. He received a rousing standing ovation from the capacity-filled crowd.
