National Vice Commander Roger Mathison, from Wisconsin, was the distinguished guest speaker at the Sullivan American Legion last Wednesday during the Department of Illinois Legion membership caravan.
As residents were busy digging out their driveways earlier this week after the heavy snowfall and drifting from the weekend, Sullivan city employees were busy cleaning up the roads around town and on the square. Many businesses were closed Monday.
Last Friday was pick-up day for the 13th annual hand dipped chocolate fundraiser for the Moultrie County Food Pantry. Friends of the Moultrie County Food Pantry sent out order forms to past fundraiser customers and made extra forms available for new customers and the Flesor’s Candy Kitchen in Tuscola donated 20% of sales from those orders. The candy was delivered to Cathrine’s Gallery Gifts and More in Sullivan so those who ordered could come pick up their sweet treats.

Season opener
The Redskins took the field a bit delayed last Friday due to weather for their first game of the season. Sullivan topped Villa Grove 36-12. See write-up on page 12.

Groundbreaking
Habitat for Humanity held a groundbreaking ceremony for new homeowners Dakoda, Cortney, Everleigh and Harper Lucas in Bethany on Sunday, August 25th. The new homeowners were met with loads of community support during the event.
