On Thursday, September 28 the Decatur Memorial Hospital and Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development hosted business after hours at the DMH Sullivan Medical Center, 1220 W. Jackson St. Dr. Steven Bridges and Mo Tababaei, PA provided tours of the facility with attendees enjoying hors d’oeuvres prepared by Cafe’ DMH. Those attending also registered to win a FITBIT.

WHS FFA Delivers Farmer Care Packages
Farmer care package delivery from Windsor FFA. Pictured from back row left to right: Tristan Boehm, Brandon Milligan, Hannah Morlen, Kimberly Henon, Lillian Sims; front row: Kendra Reed, Mackenzee Hooten. Windsor FFA chapter recently delivered care packages to local farmers who were in the field. The care packages contained things such as bottled water, cookies, and other snacks as well as a small list of tips for farmer safety. Several members attended to help benefit and thank local farmers for their year round hard work and support.

With the aid of a helicopter, Ameren’s transmission line upgrade continues near the Roney farm north of Sullivan. The helicopter lowers a worker to prepare insulators for new power lines from the Andrews Street substation east of Dalton City to the Kansas Ameren substation as part of a major upgrade of service in central Illinois.

Sullivan’s homecoming week parade featured a variety of floats like the one above with the future Redskins throwing candy to the parade audience on the square. The class of 1967 honored 50 years with a sock hop following the Friday night game.

The Windsor class of 2018 will host a Longaberger Binga Fundraiser October 7 at Windsor High School. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the games start at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale now; see a senior class member for tickets or call Elizabeth Robison at 459-2636. Tickets will be available at the door. Refreshments, 50/50, and raffle items will also be for sale. Pictured Left to Right: Caitlin Welsh, Mikayla Haddock, Kasey Bean, and Morgan Lesko.

SES Celebrates Grandparents
Sullivan Community Unit #300 schools celebrated grandparents’ night last week with students getting a chance to show off the progress they have made in class so far this school year. The evening schedule allowed more grandparents to attend while putting students in a more relaxed environment. In addition to classroom visits grandparents and students enjoyed the book fair set up in the gym.

Campground Celebrates
On Sept. 19 the Sullivan Marina and Campground held the annual campground celebration to end the season. More than 400 campers, boaters and friends gathered to enjoy an afternoon filled with family entertainment and games which ended at dark with the Sullivan Fire District supervising a grand fireworks display. Above Drew Gornink of Oak Forest plays Kerplunk, a game created by Sue Mackey (wearing Cubs shirt). Money raised during the event was donated to the Moultrie Food Pantry and Secret Santa.

With members of the Sons of the American Legion stepping up to the grills, Post 68 hosted a free chicken dinner Sept. 16. Event coordinator Josh Harner explained the free dinner courtesy Sullivan American Legion was to honor two longtime members Al Golden and Dick Wiback and their years of devotion to the post. Above Wiback’s daughter and Al’s daughter-in-law Karen Golden and SAL member Seth Cobb brave the smoke as the group prepared 200 lbs. of chicken and sides for the free community dinner. Dinner was served until 7 p.m. and was followed by DJ and karaoke from 7-11 in the American Legion lounge.

Fatal Crash

Fatal Crash
A Sullivan man died as a result of injuries received in a near head on collision on Hwy 121, near Mason Point Thursday, Sept. 7. Michael D. Eikenberry, 21, was traveling west on Hwy 121, a quarter mile east of 1300N when his 2000 Pontiac Sunbird went into the eastbound lane. Dalton C. Long, 22, of Decatur was driving a 2000 Cadillac east on Hwy 121, and the two vehicles collided. Moultrie Co. Sheriff Chris Sims said both men had to be extricated from their vehicles. Eikenberry was transported to Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital by Sullivan Ambulance Service where he passed away. Long was taken to Carle Hospital by Sullivan Ambulance Service with serious injuries.

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
