Sullivan Rotary Honored
The Sullivan Rotary Club recently received two awards at the District Conference in Champaign including the Youth Service Award for the sponsorship of the One Book One Sullivan Program and the Star Club Award for giving at least $100 per member for the Rotary Programs throughout the world such as clean water and medical equipment programs. David Cole is shown accepting these awards for the club.

Okaw Valley FCCLA students presented bicycle safety to OVES May 4. FCCLA(Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in family and consumer sciences education. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national career and technical student organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education. Bonnie Scott is the Okaw Valley FCCLA sponsor.

Masonic Lodge Donates to Scouts
Scouts left to right: Assistant scoutmaster Mike Young with scouts Ryan Bailey, Clayton Young, Christian Hopper accept donation from Sullivan Masonic Lodge members Mike Rollins and Mike Black. Scouts worked with the Masonic Lodge serving a St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage dinner. The $650 donation from the lodge to the scouts was in appreciation for their efforts and part of the Masonic Lodge’s community service mission.

Okaw Valley middle and high schools had their spring concert recently during which current drum major Corey Clark passed the baton to the newly selected drum majors Caleb Hildebrandt and Connor Powers. Hildebrandt and Powers will lead the Marching Timberwolves next school year. Clark will continue his musical career at Roosevelt University where he will major in music education. Okaw Valley students helped out with the Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville April 24. The all female team spread 30 cubic yards of mulch, cleaned up the flower beds at the visitor center and Coon Creek, and trimmed back and cleaned the trails at Coon Creek.

State Rep. Brad Halbrook (left) and State Sen. Chapin Rose (right) met with Lynn Reed, Coroner; Dave McCabe, County Chairman; Georgia England, County Clerk and Recorder, all of Moultrie County, April 24 at the Capitol. The group was in Springfield to discuss local issues with Rose and Halbrook.

Sign collision at Agri-Fab

In the late afternoon of Saturday, May 31st, there was a single-vehicle accident, with the vehicle making contact with the Sullivan Agri-Fab factory signage located at the factory frontage on Hamilton Street. Per Sullivan Police Department’s Chief of Police, Andrew Pistorius, the airbag was deployed in the incident, and the driver refused medical treatment. No further information is available at this time.
