OVHS Job Shadow Program Honored
Okaw Valley’s Job Shadow Class had their recognition breakfast Friday, April 28 at Tailwinds in Findlay. Students presented mentors with certificates and talked about their experiences and future plans. The following students participated in the program this year: Evan Blakey - DMH Sports Enhancement Center, Kailyn Boyer - Merle Norman and Babich Skin Care
Kristy Burford - Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development, Elaina Crawford - Graham Veterinary Clinic, Moranda Matheson - Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois, Maddie Perrine - Good Shepherd Hospital , Jessica Robinson - Arthur Veterinary Clinic, Makayle Rozanski - Jesek Family Dental and Vita Center for Women, Madison Uhlrich - News Progress, Kayla Wheeler - Good Shepherd Hospital . The Job Shadow class is taught by Bonnie Scott. The photo includes job shadow students and their mentors.

Students from Okaw Valley attended the No Job Left Behind business luncheon April 20 at the Sullivan VFW. Students were able to meet with local business personnel and listen to testimonials highlighting  a variety of local businesses. Pictured are those who attended along with Sullivan Chamber intern Kristy Burford, who is currently a senior at OVHS, participating in the job shadow program.

Okaw Valley students helped out with the Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville on Monday. The students spread 30 cubic yards of mulch, cleaned up the flower beds at the visitor center and Coon Creek, and trimmed back and cleaned the trials at Coon Creek. It was a beautiful day and a great opportunity for students to give back to the community.

Lovington Easter Egg Hunt
The annual Lovington Easter Egg hunt was held Saturday, April 8 in the village park. Children from five age groups gathered at the park, hunting for Easter eggs and prizes. Grand prizes included a new bicycle giveaway sponsored by Sparrows of Lovington. Boys’ and girls’ bike winners include Tyler Wulff and Landry Wiley (1-3 yrs); Gavin Wylie and Isabella Black (kindergarten); Owen Hilton and Karah Helmuth (first and second); Zachary Barrett and Kikyo Brent (third and fourth); Colton Taylor and Morgan Walters (fifth and sixth).

Easter Sunday’s rain didn’t stop the annual egg hunt at Wyman Park. Hundreds of local children gathered in six age groups to get more than their fair share of prize filled Easter Eggs thanks to the Sullivan Fire District.

High School Student of the Month at Windsor Jr/Sr High school is sophomore Lauren Hendershot (right), daughter of Jason and Shawn Hendershot. She is involved in band, Spanish club, and art club. Junior High Student of the Month is Alexandra Domzalski, daughter of Robert and Rebecca Domzalski. She is an eighth grader and participates in volleyball and track.

ALAH FFA Members Compete in District 4 Proficiency Awards

ALAH FFA Members Compete in District 4 Proficiency Awards
Janette Comstock, Makenna Green, and Colton Romine traveled to Sullivan March 8 to compete in the District 4 Proficiency Awards. Comstock was previously chosen as the Chapter and Section winner in diversified crop Production.
Romine was the Chapter and Section winner in vegetable production and
Green the Chapter and Section winner in grain production.
At the district level, FFA members are interviewed, not only by agriculture teachers, but by community members as well. Members compete against the section winners in the other four sections in District 4.
Romine and Green were selected as the District Four winners by a committee of agriculture industry representatives and teachers knowledgeable in this work-based area.
Receiving this honor made them eligible to compete in the State FFA Awards Selection process in Urbana-Champaign March 25. They will receive plaques which were made possible through gifts from individuals, businesses, corporations and organizations through the Illinois Foundation FFA.

Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
