Hay Ride at Buxton’s Garden Farm

Photo by RR Best Hay Ride at Buxton’s Garden Farm The Moultrie County Bright Start play group took a field trip to Buxton’s Garden Farm Thursday, Oct. 6. The children were taken on a hay ride and got to jump on the giant ground trampoline. Bright Start is a free play group program that is funded through the Illinois State Board of Education for children birth thru age three who reside in Moultrie County. Play groups meet on Thursday mornings from 9 to 10:30 at the Early Intervention building at 203 S. Graham St. in Sullivan. For more information call Amy Eller at 728-7396.

Every Friday during the month of October more than 100 employees wear pink Agri-Fab Breast Cancer Awareness shirts as part of the company’s ongoing community outreach. Money raised from the sale of the pink shirts is donated to Moultrie County Relay for Life.

Photo by Mike Brothers Round Up Time Crowds filled the Sullivan IGA parking lot at high noon October 7 for a beef showdown. There were freshly charcoaled ribeye sandwiches served at 11:30, and a beef brisket cook off which was won by the Sullivan Fire Dept. While strolling around with a ribeye sandwich, crowds were guessing the weight of a prize Hereford bull, looking at Joe Scribner and Rick Montague’s beefed up cars and watching Gail Wolfe give free pony drawn wagon rides. The Sullivan American Legion Color Guard made a special appearance, and Bob Vail performed the national anthem.

Photo furnished Gold Slips at SES Jacob Harlin, Braelyn Day and Hannah Righter used her spare time in class to draw a picture to welcome a new classmate to the school. Elijah Dalbey is always very respectful and polite to the kitchen staff as he goes through the line, which sets a great example for everyone. Devon Richardson noticed the tables needed cleaned when the second and third grade students entered the cafeteria so she started washing all the tables before eating her own lunch. Fallon Rose and Caidon Hill noticed trash lying on the ground at the football game a couple of weeks ago and picked it up. Then he saw spilled popcorn at the girls’ basketball game and cleaned it up. Neither was his mess, but he cleaned them up anyway. Not pictured: Aron Bishop. Gold slips are awarded to students who go above and beyond expectations.

Photo Courtesy DuPage County Moultrie County Circuit Clerk Serves DuPage County DuPage County Clerk of the Circuit Court Chris Kachiroubas hosted Moultrie County Circuit Clerk Cynthia Braden to serve as Circuit Clerk for the day. The two made a friendly bet over who would win baseball’s National League Central Division: Kachiroubas’ Cubs, or Braden’s beloved Cardinals. The loser agreed to visit the winner’s county and do their job for a day. To make sure Braden remembered who won the bet, Kachiroubas encouraged his employees to wear Cubs shirts to work today, and put Cubs flags around the office.

UMC Kids Spread Cheer to Food Pantry

From left to right: Adalee Foster, Vance Young, Leo Lane, Livie Lane, Henry Kuhns, Scarlett Perrott and Judd Sanner. Church members and children were challenged to fill several large boxes to supply the food needs for the month of September for the food pantry. The children were also in a contest to collect a total of 300 pounds of peanut butter and jelly (150 lb. of peanut butter for boys, 150 lb. jelly for girls). The kids surpassed their goal by collecting 164 lb. of peanut butter and 213 lb. of jelly in hopes of “Spreading the Word” to the community of Sullivan and helping those in the community.

Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the games start at 6 p.m. Tickets are available from any senior class member or by calling Lesley Baker at 459-2636. Tickets will also be sold at the door. A variety of baskets filled with goodies will be available as well as refreshments, 50/50, and raffle items. Pictured top left to right: Bailey Fleshner and Anthony Curry. The parade will begin at 4 p.m. Oct. 7 with the homecoming game against Central A&M kicking off at 7 p.m. The 2016 queen and king will be announced at the dance Saturday with coronation starting at 8 p.m. Homecoming attendants for Sullivan High School are freshmen Meena Corkill and Myles Gregory, sophomores Madison Atchison and Cullen Dyer and juniors Katie McClure and Jacob White.

Photo furnished Miss US International Has Sullivan Connection Editors note: Leinbach is the daughter of Carla Stokes who grew up in Sullivan and “honorary granddaughter” of Ron and Sharon White of Sullivan. Kaitryanna Leinbach of Charlotte, N.C. has been crowned Miss US International a title she won at the national competition in Orlando, Fla. June 23. Leinbach will live in Tokyo, Japan for a month representing the United States during a national press tour and then will compete in the international pageant in Toyko October 27. She is a freshman at Louisiana State University and member of the LSU cheer team. Her parents are Laurence and Carla Stokes Leinbach of Charlotte.
