Mustangs Return

Photo courtesy Patrick Tueth Mustangs Return Featured in Bethany’s homecoming parade and other festivities this past weekend was the graduating class of 1976. According to those in attendance, no one has changed a bit in the 40 years since they roamed the halls of Bethany High School.The sports teams were known as the Mustangs in those days. Pictured are Kim Abbott, Bill Reeter, Patrick Tueth, John Hill, Sheila (Standerfer) Smith, Doug Moore, Cheryl Robinson, Susan (Iler) Schwartz, Donna (Martin) Fowler, Jane (Harshman) Inman, Tammy (Miller) Stinson and Pam (Richardson) Stetler.

Care-A-Vanners Are Back

Photo by Mike Brothers Care-A-Vanners Are Back Habitat for Humanities volunteer Care-A-Vanners from all over the country have set up at Faith Resort behind Faith Lutheran Church in Sullivan. The inhabitants of eight RVs are in the process of building the 27th Habitat for Humanity house in Moultrie County. Care-A-Vanner Project leader  Bob Gillespie said they have an additional RV this year to help with a Habitat rehabilitation project during the six week build.

Sullivan FFA Officer Team

Photo furnished Sullivan FFA Officer Team Sullivan FFA elected their officers for the 2016-2017 year this past May. Serving as president is Devin Warren, and vice president is Andrew Matlock. Bryce King serves as chapter reporter, Jon Gavin, chapter secretary, Blake Read, treasurer, Devan Tull, sentinel, and historian is Irie Dulin.  On Target for Success was selected as the chapter theme by the officers during their officer orientation meetings held this summer. Officers worked throughout the summer to learn their new offices, and the summer culminated in the Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) program. During this two day retreat, officers had the opportunity to try “escaping” from two different escape rooms, The Office and The Curse of Jackling Manor, in Escape-Bloomington. The overall theme for the COLT program was Leadership Escape and featured a series of activities to promote teamwork and communication amongst the officer team.

Saturday August 27. The 3 p.m. reception sponsored by Citizens of Sullivan gave the public a chance to show their appreciation for what law enforcement does everyday, event coordinator Rob Young explained.

Children’s Lives Matter

Photo by Mike Brothers Children’s Lives Matter School is in session throughout Moultrie County and drivers need watch for children going to and from school. Not only at crosswalks and in neighborhoods, but especially while loading and unloading buses. Motorist must obey the stop sign for the safety of the children boarding and unboarding. Drivers violating the stop arm are subject to high fines and loss of drivers privileges for three months. Make this a safe school transportation year.

Now schools have new HVAC units, communications and security systems along with a roof to keep students dry. Above Luke Waelde (left) and James Rose are paying ahead for lunch as students at Sullivan Elementary School are dropped off by parents and gather in the gymnasium prior to attending classroom.

Red Apple Donates

Photo by Mike Brothers Red Apple Donates With the Moultrie County Food Pantry needing food donations, the Red Apple Family Restaurant in Sullivan is collecting canned and other non-perishable food items Thursday and Friday, Aug 25-26. Customers who donate items to the Food Pantry collection box in the restaurant will receive a free (nonalcoholic) beverage with their meal. Red Apple coordinator for food pantry donations Stephanie Hays explained the Moultrie County Food Pantry helps a lot of people in the community, and the restaurant is happy to support such a worthy service.
