UMC Kids Spread Cheer to Food Pantry

From left to right: Adalee Foster, Vance Young, Leo Lane, Livie Lane, Henry Kuhns, Scarlett Perrott and Judd Sanner. Church members and children were challenged to fill several large boxes to supply the food needs for the month of September for the food pantry. The children were also in a contest to collect a total of 300 pounds of peanut butter and jelly (150 lb. of peanut butter for boys, 150 lb. jelly for girls). The kids surpassed their goal by collecting 164 lb. of peanut butter and 213 lb. of jelly in hopes of “Spreading the Word” to the community of Sullivan and helping those in the community.

WHS Seniors Host Binga Fundraiser

Photo furnished WHS Seniors Host Binga Fundraiser The Windsor class of 2017 will host a Longaberger Binga Fundraiser October 22 at the high school. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the games start at 6 p.m.   Tickets are available from any senior class member or by calling Lesley Baker at 459-2636.  Tickets will also be sold at the door.   A variety of baskets filled with goodies will be available as well as refreshments, 50/50, and raffle items. Pictured top left to right:  Bailey Fleshner and Anthony Curry.  Bottom feft to right:  Jodie Harris and Gillian Sanders.

Photo furnished SHS Homecoming Attendents Sullivan homecoming will take place the week of October 3-7. The parade will begin at 4 p.m. Oct. 7 with the homecoming game against Central A&M kicking off at 7 p.m. The 2016 queen and king will be announced at the dance Saturday with coronation starting at 8 p.m.  Homecoming attendants for Sullivan High School are freshmen Meena Corkill and Myles Gregory, sophomores Madison Atchison and Cullen Dyer and juniors Katie McClure and Jacob White.

Miss US International Has Sullivan Connection

Photo furnished Miss US International Has Sullivan Connection Editors note: Leinbach is the daughter of Carla Stokes who grew up in Sullivan and “honorary granddaughter” of Ron and Sharon White of Sullivan. Kaitryanna Leinbach of Charlotte, N.C. has been crowned Miss US International a title she won at the national competition in Orlando, Fla. June 23.  Leinbach will live in Tokyo, Japan for a month representing the United States during a national press tour and then will compete in the international pageant in Toyko October 27. She is a freshman at Louisiana State University and member of the LSU cheer team. Her parents are Laurence and Carla Stokes Leinbach of Charlotte.

Photo courtesy Patrick Tueth Mustangs Return Featured in Bethany’s homecoming parade and other festivities this past weekend was the graduating class of 1976. According to those in attendance, no one has changed a bit in the 40 years since they roamed the halls of Bethany High School.The sports teams were known as the Mustangs in those days. Pictured are Kim Abbott, Bill Reeter, Patrick Tueth, John Hill, Sheila (Standerfer) Smith, Doug Moore, Cheryl Robinson, Susan (Iler) Schwartz, Donna (Martin) Fowler, Jane (Harshman) Inman, Tammy (Miller) Stinson and Pam (Richardson) Stetler.

Care-A-Vanners Are Back

Photo by Mike Brothers Care-A-Vanners Are Back Habitat for Humanities volunteer Care-A-Vanners from all over the country have set up at Faith Resort behind Faith Lutheran Church in Sullivan. The inhabitants of eight RVs are in the process of building the 27th Habitat for Humanity house in Moultrie County. Care-A-Vanner Project leader  Bob Gillespie said they have an additional RV this year to help with a Habitat rehabilitation project during the six week build.

Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
