Covington Kids Jump

Photo furnished Lovington Kids Jump Lovington Grade School raised $3,011 dollars this year for Jump Rope for Heart. That was well over the school goal of $2,000. Kelly Martina’s kindergarten class raised the most money with $816. Left to right front row: Norma Mendoza, Randi Tedrick, Tylan Zander, Maddox Crum, Jansen Burnett, Kade Ballinger, Kit Kauffman, Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Bella Menna, Mya Bowman. Back row: Zebediah Peck, Jonah Burket, Aiden Erixon, Skyler Mitchell, Lyla Sutton, Gabriel Devenbaugh, Cannon Doggett.The top individual fundraiser was fifth grader Chloe Franklin who raised $250.

Eric Kenney photo Sullivan Receives VFW Gift VFW # 6410 Commander, Russell Craig, presented park commissioner Mike Mossman and city of Sullivan mayor Ann Short with a $1000.00 grant from the VFW Foundation which is for the Wyman Park Summer Youth Recreation Program. The presentation was made during the March 28 Sullivan City Council meeting.

Shrine Club Presented with Donation

 Photo furnished Shrine Club Presented with Donation The Tri-County Shrine Club was presented a donation from the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond ugly sweater contest held during the holidays. Shrine Club president Jeremy Malin and ALAH freshman Emma Harris presented the donation to Noble Ed Camacho, Potentate of Ansar Shrine Temple in Springfield at Yoder’s Country Kitchen in Arthur. This is the second year ALAH has donated the ugly sweater donations to the Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Participants donated $1 for each ugly sweater vote to raise funds. Harris is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Harris of Atwood. Stan Harris is the Second Ceremonial Master of Ansar Temple.

Wyman Park Easter Egg Hunt Draws Huge Crowd The Sullivan Fire District hosted a huge crowd at the Wyman Park Easter Egg Hunt at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 27. In addition they had a grand bicycle give away.  A bicycle was donated to both a boy and a girl in each of the six age groups participating. Bike winners included: 0-1 Faith Whitlow and Beavis Edwards; 2-3 Wesley Murray and Ana Kean; 4-5 Charlie Conlin and Gabby Hutchcraft; 6-7 Leighton Poulos and Wyatt Wehrle; 8-9 Jaiden Beckwith donated her bike to Hannah Kercheval and Ivan Moxley won the boys bike; 10-11 Noah Marlow and Madelyn Neville. Show Choir Invitational

In addition to an intense weekend of high school show choir competition there was time to showcase future Sullivan talent. Above the Sullivan six grade choir dazzles the invitational crowd.

Golden Eggs

Photo by Mike Brothers Golden Eggs For 27 years volunteers from the First United Methodist Church in Sullivan diligently turn out peanut butter and vanilla eggs, preparing some 400 Easter baskets for delivery to lucky sweet lovers throughout Moultrie County. There are about 40 volunteers working shifts to complete orders before Easter. Above Karen Dwyer prepares another batch of peanut butter fudge with Lucy Hilliard (center) shuttling ingredients to mixer Fern Patton in the background.

Windsor Students for February

Photos furnished Windsor Students for February Mehria Khan has been named Windsor High School’s February Student of the Month.  Mehria currently a junior and is the daughter of Naik Muhammad and Noria Saadat, her host parents are Brian and Phyllis Brunner.  She is a foreign exchange student from Pakistan.   While here she is involved in Student Council, Scholastic Bowl, Spanish Club, Art Club, FFA, Physics Club, Pep Club, Band, and Softball.  Upon her return to Pakistan she will study Pre-Med. Hannah Morlen has been named Windsor Junior High School’s February Student of the Month.  Hannah is the daughter of Robert and Misty Reed.  She is currently in 8th grade and is involved in Cheerleading, Volleyball, Track, Scholastic Bowl, Class Secretary, Eco Team, and Team Quest.  She plans to one day be a Veterinarian. Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
