Carol Ann Nolen, 60, of Sullivan, passed away at 2:22 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 in her home in Sullivan.
A memorial visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 29 at the Sullivan VFW. McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan is in care of the arrangements.
Carol was born November 20, 1957 in Decatur, a daughter of Robert D. and Mary Margaret Wood Brown. She married Doug Nolen May 12, 1995, and he survives. She worked at MasterBrand Cabinets for 19 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. Read More

Doris L. Hugo, 96, of Springfield, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 2:23 a.m. Wednesday June 13, 2018 in the Illinois Presbyterian Home in Springfield.
Celebration of Life services were 11 a.m. Monday in Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bethany with Adam McReynolds officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bethany. Arrangements were by Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Doris was born July 16, 1921 in Sullivan, a daughter of Walter Henry and Martha Clora Butts Daum. Read More

Larry F. Underwood, 75, of Bethany went to his heavenly home at 8:08 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19 in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial was in Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany.
Larry was born February 12, 1943 in Dalton City, a son of Walker W. and Belva Lockwood Burress Underwood. He graduated from Mt. Zion High School in 1964 and then attended Laura Hallford Beauty School. He married Shirley Jean Ferguson March 18, 1967, and she preceded him in death July 14, 2009. Read More

Moultrie County Farm Up For Cash Rent

The Moultrie County farm is up for cash rent.

Members of the building and grounds committee agreed to advertise for bids on the 217.58 acre county farm, continuing the two year lease.

In order to submit a cash rent proposal the bidder must own 40 acres or live in Moultrie County. Provisions to provide 2/3 ton of lime and maintain soil quality will be included in the contract as renter obligation. The committee is looking at an August bid opening for the November 1, 2018 through October 31, 2020 contract. Read More

Clarence L. “Doc” Ingram, 97, of Oakland passed away at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in Mattoon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 1 in Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola.  The Rev. Kent Conover officiated. Burial will be in Hugo cemetery at a later date.

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
