Russell Dean Baker, 90, of Sullivan, passed away at 8:49 a.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
As per Russell’s wishes, no services will be held.
Russell was born May 5, 1927 in Lincoln, a son of Harry and Hilda Milstedt Baker. He married Betty Whiteside in 1947; he later married Shirley Broughton in 1979, and they both preceded him in death. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Russell was a member of the Elkhart American Legion Post #616 and the VFW. He loved reading, gardening, leather working and watching Dancing with the Stars. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he will be truly missed by his family and friends. Dorothy Woods Schwartz, 97, of Alvarado, Tex. passed away May 1, 2017. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 4 in the First United Methodist Church in Alvarado. Interment followed in Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado. Vaughan Funeral Home in Alvarado handled arrangements.
Dorothy was born November 18, 1919 in Hays County near Buda, Texas to William and Mattie Woods. She attended Seton Hospital School of Nursing in Austin, Texas and graduated in September 1940 and continued her nursing career as an RN until her retirement in 1976. She married V.E. “Gene” Schwartz September 9, 1944 and enjoyed 55 years of marriage until his death in March 2000. They raised three children, Joe, Mary, and Jack. Read More
