Ruth M. Yates, 89, of Sullivan passed away 9:25 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Eastview Terrace, Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, with Pastor Charliam Renner officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the Sullivan United Methodist Women or to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Ruth was born March 6, 1928, in Bruce, the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Sharp) Sampson. She married James W. Yates on June 19, 1949, in Sullivan; he survives. She was a member of the First Untied Methodist Church in Sullivan. In her earlier years she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and embroidering, while in her later years she enjoyed her rose garden and bird watching. Ruth loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her husband James of Sullivan; sons, Michael K. (Patty) Yates of Washington, IL, and Kevin M. Yates of Sullivan; daughter, Marsha K. (David) Webb of Macon. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Mary Ann Shadow, 59, of Mattoon died at 8:48 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2017 in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 in Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga.

She was born October 4, 1958 in Mattoon, a daughter of Paul C. and Marlene L. Baugh Vincent. She was an in-home health aide and a former manager of Sullivan Marathon.

Surviving are daughters Kristen Harvey of Taneytown, Md. and Angie Liberto of Glen Burnie, Md.; sons Scott Frye of Mattoon and Wayne Frye of Toledo, Ill.; brothers Frank Vincent and Howard Vincent, both of Mattoon; sisters Paula Niemeyer of Teutopolis, Peggy Scherrinsky of Toledo, Tracy Roberts of Joelton, Tenn. and Teresa Bierman of Watson and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Constance A. “Connie” Reedy, 64, of Sullivan passed away 12:45 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2017 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Connie was born October 9, 1953 in Tuscola, the daughter of Dennis D. and Vivian Elaine (Curby) McElvain. She married Maynard E. Reedy May 8, 1976 in Tuscola. Connie was retired from the USDA/NRCS. She was a member of the Solid Rock Chapel, Sullivan. She loved her grandchildren, gardening and travel. She also enjoyed playing golf, fishing and camping with friends.

She is survived by her husband, Maynard; mother Elaine McElvain of Sullivan; son, Brian (Melissa) Reedy of Tolono; daughter, Erin Reedy of Sullivan; step-daughter, Kelly Reedy of Sullivan; brother, David McElvain of Sullivan; 3 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren; and 2 step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Raymond Samuel Reed, 93, of Sullivan passed away 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017 in his home, Sullivan.

Funeral services to celebrate Raymond’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Southern Baptist Church, Sullivan. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the Southern Baptist Church, Sullivan. Arrangements by McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with Military Rites by the Sullivan American Legion Post # 68. Memorials may be made to the Southern Baptist Church, Sullivan.

Raymond was born February 29, 1924 in Shelbyville, the son of Samuel Jesse and Bertha Amelia (Ditto) Reed. He was raised in Shelbyville and lived there many years before moving to Sullivan. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a dedicated member of the Southern Baptist Church, Sullivan and the American Legion Post # 68, Sullivan. He was a retired electrician for the Norfolk-Southern Railroad after 28 years.

Raymond is survived by his son, John Chester Reed of Pana; daughters, Jerilea Kay (Tom) Short of Decatur and Joletta (Wayne) Bohannon of Mineola, TX; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Jesse and Vincent.

As we grieve for our loss, we rejoice that Raymond now walks in the everlasting garden of faith with our Savior.

Gerald Eugene Bragg, 77, of Sullivan passed away 3:50 a.m. Friday, November 24, 2017 in his home, Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2017 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Burial will be in French Cemetery, Allenville. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Gerald was born August 18, 1940 in Bruce, the son of Gerald A. and Mary E. (Kenny) Bragg. He married Leota M. Williamson on May 20, 1967 in Findlay.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Leota; daughter, Denise Renae (Walter Lynn) White of Windsor; sister, Anna Lee Ross of Decatur; grandson, Aaron White of Windsor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and a half-brother.

Joyce E. Marquis, 82, of Lovington, passed away, 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Mason Point, Sullivan.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, at the funeral home in Lovington, the family requests casual attire. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Joyce was born February 10, 1935, in Kennett, MO, the daughter of Finis and Ruth J. (Moore) Bailey. She married John G. Marquis, Jr. on February 14, 1955, in San Bernardino County, CA; he preceded her in death on November 29, 2016. She was a member of the Lovington Church of God, she was a member of the Niantic-Harristown PTA and drove a bus for that school district.

She is survived by her sons, Guy A. Marquis of Lovington, Rock L. Marquis of Lovington and John G. Marquis III of Lovington. She is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brothers and one son Mark Marquis.

Bonnie D. Wallace, 97, of Sullivan passed away 2:51 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral services at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church, Sullivan.

Bonnie was born May 6, 1920 in Sullivan, the daughter of Arthur and Leona (Morgan) Herendeen. She married Luther Carl Wallace on December 14, 1947 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1978. Bonnie enjoyed quilting, ceramics, gardening and flowers. She loved her grandchildren.

Bonnie is survived by her son Guy (Rita) Wallace of Sullivan; daughters, Delores Casey of Sullivan and Dorothy (Jerry) Barding of Boca Raton, FL; 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, 2 grandchildren and son-in-law.

June Rose Kinkade, 87, of Lovington, passed away 2:50 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

June was born June 1, 1930, in Flora, the daughter of Earl and Eva Gertrude (Snell) Cox. She married Charles Newton Kinkade on February 1, 1947, in Effingham; he survives. June had a passion for reading books. She spent her life as a caregiver, not only as profession, but also to her friends and family. She absolutely loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Charles of Lovington; sons, Charles D. Kinkade of Phoenix, AZ, Lawrence A. (Joyce) Kinkade of Lovington, Gary W. Kinkade of Lovington, and David M. (Jennifer) Kinkade of Port St. Lucie, FL; daughters, Teresa Kay (Philip) Matheis of O’Fallon, and Marilyn J. (Larry) Curry of Lovington; one sister, Lorraine of Alma. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.

Morna Rozene

Morna “Marlene” Rozene, 84, of Effingham, formerly of Sullivan and Centralia, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Marlene was born October 1, 1932, in Shelby County, the daughter of Thomas and Viola (Blake) McLaughlin. She married Dean Rozene and he preceded her in death in November 1980. Through the years, she waitressed and worked at World Color Press in Effingham and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson followed by graveside services at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Cemetery in Trowbridge, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.

Marlene is survived by her daughter, Karen (Jerry) Fear of Centralia; son, Tom (Kim) Jewell of Strasburg; five grandchildren: Joseph (Rachel) Fear of St. Paul, MN, Justin (Laura) Fear of Rockville, MD, Brooke Jewell of Effingham, Ciara Jewell of Effingham, Daniel (Joni) Hossler of Crystal Lake; four great-grandchildren: Margaret, Joshua, Eli and Lennon; four sisters: Beverly (Dwight) Storm of Stewardson, Diana Storm of Effingham, Vicky (Dwight) Braden of Strasburg and Michelle (Greg) Spannagel of Shelbyville and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; brother, Harlan McLaughlin and sister, Joyce Crockett.

Connie S. Nolen, 78, of Sullivan, died 1:35 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017 in her home.

Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Dona officiating. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Sunday. The family request casual dress. Memorials are suggested to the St. Judes Children’s Hospital or the ASPCA. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.

Mrs Nolen was born December 13, 1938 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Grover and Ida Mae Cherry Robison. Connie retired from General Electric in Mattoon and was a member of the Broadway Christian Church, Mattoon. She married Howard Nolen on March 15, 1963 in Bethany and he survives.

Also surviving are her daughters Lora (Bill) Frazier of Sullivan, Kelly (Jack) Brown of Sullivan and Tiffany Nolen of Mattoon; grandchildren Rachel Nowlin, her sons Skylar and Lane; Kristina Brownlee, her sons Aidan and Blaze; Haily Brown; Brooke Jewel; Paige Schoonover, her son Chance; Ben Schoonover, his sons Landen, Ethan and Mason; brother Grover ‘Joe’ Robison of Long Creek; sisters Bette Porter of Leander, TX, Beverly ‘Bonnie’ Denton of Decatur and Judith Barnes of Shelbyville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved cat Opie.

Connie lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling, winters in Florida, camping and long talks with her family on the front porch. She adored animals, especially her beloved cat Opie. Connie was a friend, a mother, a grandmother and a beautiful wife. She loved her family immensely and was very proud of each of them. She was the glue that held her family puzzle together and though that piece of puzzle is missing, her ray of light will forever shine. She will be deeply missed by everyone that was a part of her life. Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, they simply mean we’ll miss you until we meet again.
