Charles Hutchcraft, Sr.
Charles Evan ‘Chuck’ Hutchcraft, Sr., 86, of Sullivan, died 12:10 p.m. Wednesday (May 18, 2016) in Mason Point, Sullivan.
Celebration of Life services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Miller officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Allenville Christian Church. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.
Chuck was born February 7, 1930 in rural Macedonia, (Franklin County) IL, the son of Harry and Mildred Carleton Hutchcraft. Chuck married Glyndola Scott in 1950 and on January 25, 1992 he married June Taylor.
Survivors include his wife June; sons Charles E. Hutchcraft, Jr. (Audrey) of Mundelien, IL, Terry L. Hutchcraft (Tina) of Shelbyville, Steven G. Hutchcraft (Mary) of Bethany, Jeffrey D. Hutchcraft (Rebekah) of Sullivan; grandchildren Sarah, Joshua, Lexie, Laine and Ashlyn Hutchcraft, Mindy Yoder and Amanda Weaver; great grandsons Darius, Ford, Carter and Owen Hutchcraft; brothers Jim Hutchcraft of Bethany, Frank Hutchcraft of Sullivan and Ernie Hutchcraft of Mattoon; numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his step-children Christine Weaver, Kathy Medved, Mark Kircher, Brenda Taylor and Carol Ann Ballard; ten step grandchildren; twelve step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson Jeremy Hutchcraft, sister Christine Myers and brothers Paul and Larry Hutchcraft.
Chuck moved to the Sullivan area when he was 15 and started working at the Illinois Masonic Home at that time. He then went to work for Stubblefield Pontiac, Buick in Sullivan, then worked and retired from Caterpillar in Decatur in 1991. During all this time, Chuck worked numerous part-time jobs, after he retired, he helped various farmers and also worked for Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan for many years. In 1993, he was awarded ‘Outstanding Volunteer’ for the Sullivan Senior Center.
Chuck was no stranger to work, that was his passion, along with walking, as in 2012 he was noted as to walking1259 miles around town.
