Senior Night Win for OV Golf

The Okaw Valley boys’ golf team knocked off Altamont Thursday and Teutopolis last Tuesday on senior night at Eagle Creek Golf Course.

The wind improved the team’s record to 22-2 overall.

OV defeated Altamont 180-195 to end its regular season.

Cameron Nickerson and Austin Harshman each shot a 43 to win co-meet champion. Read More

Sullivan Cross Country Travels to St. Joseph

The Sullivan cross country teams competed in the 26-team St. Joseph-Ogden Spartan Classic, Saturday.

The Sullivan boys’ cross country team placed 21st.

Logan Pedigo placed 69th with a personal record time of 17:33.3.

Isaiah Plank ran a 17:52.0 for 87th place, and Atticus Harris ran a personal best 19:01.5 for 133rd. Read More

ALAH Football Shuts Out Sangamon Valley

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond football team shut out Niantic/Sangamon Valley 19-0 to keep alive a shot at the 2017 playoffs.

The win improved ALAH’s record to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the Little Okaw Valley (Northwest) Conference.

“We got off to a terrible start but caught a break when the lights went out. When we resumed play we played much better,” Coach Dale Schuring said. “Marcus Vanausdoll, Lucas Otto and Adam Day played really well on defense for us. Brady Borntreger, a freshmen, did a nice job in his first start at QB.” Read More

Redskin Golfers Sweep CIC meet at Eagle Creek

Eagle Creek Trophy went to Sullivan Boys’ Golf team last week.

The Sullivan boys’ and girls’ golf teams swept the Central Illinois Conference meet at Eagle Creek Golf Course last Tuesday.

The girls’ team won with the low of 436, and the boys’ team won with the low of 344.

For the boys, Redskin Caden Ellis was meet champion with the low of 77.

Three other Redskins earned All-Central Illinois Conference.

Leighton Burcham shot an 85, and Aiden Short and Drew Rogers each carded a 91. Read More

ALAH Volleyball Prepares for Future Matches

For the first time this season, the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond volleyball team failed to reach one of its goals.

After knocking off Decatur Lutheran 25-11, 25-13, in the first round of the Little Okaw Valley Conference tournament they lost an upset to Cerro Gordo (25-15, 25-21) for the Knights’ first loss of the season.

“The LOVC tournament has definitely been a disappointment to the Knights,” said ALAH coach Emily Crossman. “We set a team goal early in the season to win the tournament, including the other side of our conference, also. However, taking our first loss earlier in the season than expected will be a good thing as far as preparing us for tough matches in the future.”

In the two games , Liz Shipman tallied two aces, nine kills and ten digs. Read More

OV Boys’ Golf Wins Conference

The Okaw Valley boys’ golf team won the Little Okaw Valley Conference Championship at Eagle Creek Golf Course Saturday.

“We are very happy to win the LOVC,” said OV coach Steve Nickerson. “This was one of goals at the beginning of the year.”

OV scored the low of 347, followed by Tri-Valley’s 374.

Arcola/Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond placed fourth with a 414. Jacob Butler carried the Purple Riders with an 85 to tie for fifth.  Read More

OV Golfer is Medalist
Okaw Valley golfer Grace Harlin was individual medalist at the Little Okaw Valley Conference Championship at Eagle Creek Golf Course Saturday.
Harlin scored a low of 96.
Harlin will set her sights on regional action next week for a chance to earn a trip to sectionals.

Strong First Half for SOV Football

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley football team took an early lead for the first time this season but could not hold on in the second half against Meridian during homecoming Friday night.

After scoring 21 points in the first half, SOV showed its youth and lack of depth and eventual lost 52-21.

“We played well defensively and offensively in the first half,” said SOV coach Andy Kerley. “The kids came out very motivated to play well for homecoming, and we executed very well in the first half.”

SOV scored first on a 5-yard run by Luke Harlin with 5:54 left in the first quarter. Read More
