OV Softball Scores Win Over Edinburg

The Okaw Valley softball team kicked off its season with a 2-2 record.

The Timberwolves defeated Edinburg and Central A&M but lost to Maroa-Forsyth and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

Against Edinburg at Crowder Park Saturday, OV scored seven runs with two outs to break open a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning.

In the fourth inning rally, Benning singled to right.

Grace Harlin followed with a single down the right field line, which allowed Benning to advance to third.  Benning advanced to home on the throwing error to third base. Read More

SOV Girls’ Track Opens Season at Arcola

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley girls’ track and field team opened its season with a second-place finish with 12- points at the six-team Arcola meet last Tuesday.

Natalie Drury and Esther Miller tied for first in the high jump at 4’4”.

Laine Cameron ran the 300 hurdles in 52.7 for first place.

ALAH’s Hall Breaks Record at Invitational

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond track and field runner Logan Hall broke his own school record in the 3,200 meter run at the Centennial Charger Invitational Saturday, March 4.

Hall knocked off 13 seconds with a time of 9:21.70 and was named as one of the 13 elite performers at the meet.

Okaw Valley Sends Fritz to Conference All Stars

Okaw Valley junior guard Garrett Fritz made 6-of-15 shots at the sectional 3-Point Shootout in Nokomis Friday.

The six made shots were one short of qualifying for state.

Last week, Fritz was also named to the Little Okaw Valley Conference All-Star second team where he will be coached by Okaw Valley’s Brooks Inman.

The all-star game is schedule for March 25 in Cumberland.

Local Basketball Players Make Conference All-Star Team

Two Moultrie County basketball players made the Little Okaw Valley Conference All-Star team.

Senior Connor Cloyd of the Okaw Valley Timberwolves and Shandon Herschberger of the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights will play in the all-star game March 25 in Cumberland. Read More

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team defeated Cerro Gordo/Bement and Arthur Christian but could not carry that momentum into a win at the Pana Class 2A regional.

ALAH fell to Toledo-Cumberland in the regional 61-32 to end its season.

The Knights trailed 13-4 after the first quarter and did not recover.

Shandon Herschberger led the Knights with 11 points and two assists, and Kobe Wells and Will Cohan each scored five points.

Colton Romine collected a team-high four rebounds, and Marcus Vanausdoll added a team-high three steals. Each player scored a basket. Read More

OV Three Point Ace Competes in Showdown

Okaw Valley junior guard Paige Robinson competed in the Class 1A State Final of the IHSA Three-Point Showdown Thursday, Feb. 23 and was named third team all-state by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Monday, Feb 27.

Robinson was shooter No. 5 in group three at Illinois State University.

She was one of 28 shooters.

She made seven-of-15 but did not advance to the final round.

During the season, Robinson was 76-of-203 (.374) from beyond the three-point line. Read More

Timberwolves Finish Season at Regional Tournament

The Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team lost 69-60 to Central A&M in the semifinals of the IHSA Class 1A regional tournament in Findlay last Wednesday.

The Raiders took an early 11-2 lead in the first quarter and maintained a 4-to-9 point cushion for most of the game.

The Timberwolves made several runs at CAM, including a 10-0 third-quarter run that cut the lead to one, 39-38, with 4:32 left, but Okaw Valley could not get over the hump.

“Wednesday was a hard fought battle,” said Okaw Valley coach Brooks Inman. “Our kids fell behind early but continually battled back. Every time we needed to get a stop on defense, A&M would hit a big shot.”

Three seniors played their last high school basketball game Wednesday: Taylor Coleman, Ty Nichols and Connor Cloyd. Read More
