SOV Cross Country Wins Home Meet

Sullivan Okaw Valley cross country team won the quad meet held at Tabor Park Aug 25.

SOV runners were first with a 54 followed by the ALAH coop in second with a 58. Tuscola was third with 59, Teutopolis finished fourth with 59 and Bement fifth with 67 points.

Knights Volleyball Tops Bement

Things couldn’t have gone much better to start the season for the Redskins.

From start to finish the Redskins’ running attack featuring quarterback Brett Tuttle and running back Ty Nichols, made gash after gash in the South Fork defense with a 100 yard run touchdown and two 64 yard touchdowns respectively.

All the worries after Nichols slipped and fell for a five yard loss on the first play of scrimmage were long gone after the game.

“The way South Fork was playing their defensive ends throughout the game we felt like we would be able to get our option game going,” explained Redskins’ head coach Gerald Temples. “We felt like we needed to do that more in the second half and that worked out for us.”

Nichols’ first score came on a fourth and one from the one yard line, taking a handoff from Tuttle over the right side and over several Pony defenders with 5:31 to go in the first quarter.

Local Taekwondo School Holds Testing

Attends Kentucky Tournament and Training

Industrial Martial Arts held their most recent testing Friday, August 26 in Mattoon at their Loxa Rd Location.

Students completed testing in the areas of Traditional Form, Combat Sparring, One-Steps, and Self-Defense.  Industrial Martial Arts opened their new location in Sullivan this past January to provide Martial Arts instruction through the American Taekwondo Association.

Students range in age from three years old and up.  The school also offers kickboxing and kettlebell classes in the mornings and evenings at their Sullivan location.

Several students and instructors recently attended a regional tournament in Owensboro, Kentucky. Paul Kennedy received first place in Traditional Sparring, second place in Traditional Forms and Combat Sparring.  Read More

Arcola-ALAH Golf Returns Individual Regional Champion Shooting for Continued Success in 2016

Head Arcola-Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond golf coach Tyler Renshaw is returning for his sixth season with a solid group of 11 players—including four lettermen— to take the greens this fall.

Most notably of the group is returning senior Clayton Miller, who ended 20th over all at State last season after taking second in Sectionals and the Windsor Regional crown. Read More

A-ALAH Golf wins at Eagle Creek

Okaw Valley golfers faced a tough Arcola Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond team in the tri-match at Eagle Creek, August 23.

Arcola was first, shooting 161 as a team followed by Okaw Valley with 177 and Clinton shooting 189.

Clayton Miller was the medalist shooting a 3 under 33. He ended the day

with three birdies and six pars.  Read More

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
