Though more hits, Lady Red errors lead to extra outs

It didn’t take long for Sullivan’s errors to rear their head Monday evening against Charleston.

The first pitch to the first batter in the first inning to be exact.

Ali Finn’s grounder to shortstop was overthrown to first, allowing Finn to get to second. A sacrifice bunt and a single to right field later, Charleston had one of its five runs on a day when Sullivan couldn’t stop from shooting itself in the foot. It marked the first of five errors and despite outhitting the Trojans 11 to 8, Sullivan scored only two runs, all while leaving nine runners on base. Read More

Tyler Schuring was a presence on the mound Wednesday. But Devon Still was a monster.

The OV senior worked the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond lineup, striking out 16. Still then worked his magic from the plate, tallying one of OV’s two hits on the day and then getting on base with an intentional walk in his team’s 2-0 win. Read More

For any college-bound high school senior, the transition from high school to college life is a big one. For Okaw Valley senior Shelby Dash, this transition will be even more significant since she has signed on to play volleyball at Central College in Pella, Iowa.

It all started when her club volleyball team, Twin City, played in a tournament where coaches from Central College saw her play and got in contact with her. She then visited the college campus this past November and made her decision in December. Dash will receive a yearly $14,000 academic scholarship and is enrolled in their four-year nursing program. Marks second OVC 10-Run Mercy Rule Win for Sullivan

The calm before the storm Tuesday night was full of hits, hits, and more hits for Sullivan.

Fourteen in five innings produced 15 runs for the Lady Redskins (6-10, 2-5 OVC), who downed OVC foe Central A&M 15-5. The mercy rule has been a part of Sullivan’s two OVC wins—the first coming against St. Teresa—and Tuesday night Sullivan scored two or more runs each frame.  Read More

Four games in four days didn’t dissuade the Okaw Valley softball team from winning all four matchups last week.

Windsor/Stew-Stras Takes Advantage of early miscues

All Windsor/Stew-Stras had to do at the plate Saturday consisted of one big inning–the first to be exact.

The Comets took advantage of a poor start at the mound by Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond’s Jeremy Plank–six walks and four earned runs in 2/3 an inning–to score nine of their 14 runs on the day, en route to a 14-1 five inning victory.

“You have to throw strikes,” said ALAH coach Craig Moffett. “If pitchers don’t throw strikes, you don’t really have a chance to do anything defensively.” Read More

Frerichs’ two RBI doubles overshadowed by mistakes

It didn’t matter who was throwing for Warrensburg or what pitch was thrown, Nick Frerichs hit the ball, and hard.

Although the Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a half inning, Frerichs sent a shot down the left field line that rolled to the wall, scoring Alec Ballinger who was off with the pitch.

It was also Frerichs in the home half of the seventh who started the Redskin rally from down 4-1 with a double to the left centerfield gap, scoring Atchison who walked. Read More

Kauryn Karmazinas batted in her sister Klaire for the first run of the game in the home half of the first for Arcola in game one of their double-header against ALAH, but the Rider defense fell apart in the top of the third.
