Four Knights in double figures, Plank tops with 16

Arthur-Lovington lost a heart-breaker to Cerro Gordo-Bement in overtime the last time the two teams met in Cerro Gordo, so it was only poetic justice the two rivals met in the LOVC tournament final.
“This year the kids—especially the seniors—set their minds to it to make it this far,” Knights head coach Dale Schuring stated. “On a regular basis we struggle in this tournament, but this year the kids really stepped up and prevented anything from going wrong. This wasn’t a revenge game to me, but I’m sure the kids had some in their minds.”
Early on it looked as if the excitement of the previous meeting between the two would carry over as both crowds set an electric atmosphere for the game. The atmosphere carried over, and the Knights’ Tyler Schuring and Jeremy Plank opened with 3-pointers, which were answered by Bronco Connor Gross. Read More

Monticello was perhaps left feeling slighted by Sullivan Saturday when both the Lady and Gentlemen Red beat the Sages in each of their conference tourneys. The girls won 75-54 solidifying third place in the OVC tournament (after losing a heartbreaker Thursday to Clinton), while the boys overcame a 10-0 run in the second to retake a lead they held on to for a 72-61 win. As was the case for the Lancers and their volleyball senior night, their basketball senior night started off slow.
Tri-County started the game with an 8-2 run, with post player Abby Smith scoring four of her game high 27 in the opening run, but the Lancers would settle down and go to work in the second after leading only 14-13 after one. Read More
Hrvol, Ballinger Prove Youth Can Sustain in 46-32 Win Over Clinton
Two sophomores combine for 23 points in tournament opener

Clinton head coach was a bit bewildered at Zak Hrvol last Thursday.
The bench player, whom Clinton scouted as a mere roll player, was quite the opposite, knocking down 14 points, 12 of which came off 3-pointers.
“The Hrvol kid, I don’t know what he averages, but he had 14 today, and he hasn’t had 14 all season. He wasn’t even on our radar, our report,” said Clinton coach Clay Haurberg. “He was just a bench player that we thought was a roll player. Hats off to him. We played that triangle, and he hit one, but then he shot better off the move and off picks.” Read More

After holding commanding lead, Sullivan crumbles in fourth
by Keith Stewart

It may very well have been the worst loss Sullivan took since losing to Pana in the regional finals two years ago. if not the worst in recent memory.
After holding a 15 point lead with around six minutes left against Clinton last Thursday in the OVC tournament semifinals, Sullivan froze on the court like a first-time actor with stage fright and in the process allowed Clinton to score an incredible 33 points in just the final quarter to win 71-65. Knights get best in second matchup of the year

Arthur/Sullivan Reporter
Not even a 10 minute delay due to a malfunctioning game clock could slow down Arthur-Lovington in Tuesday night’s LOVC tourney opener against Okaw Valley, and with Tyler Schuring leading the way with 23—with 10 in the opening frame—the Knights rolled on 61-37 after beating OV 60-25 two weeks ago.
Jeremy Plank opened scoring for the Knights with a 3-pointer, which was followed by a missed layup at the other end for the Timberwolves. In the next Knight possession, Schuring scored his first basket, then a 3-ball with 6:03 remaining, forcing a Timberwolves timeout. Read More
Cardinals Crush Sullivan Despite Strong Start for Redskins
Warrensburg press helps pinch 29 turnovers out of Sullivan in 69-39 victory
by Keith Stewart
keith@newsprogress.com
It may be one of the most tiring metaphors in sports. It certainly is one team’s hate to have attributed to them. Unfortunately for Sullivan, it applied Tuesday night.
Despite leading Warrensburg-Latham 12-9 at the end of the first, Sullivan found themselves down 12-20 with 3:55 left in the half. A timeout didn’t help either as the Redskins managed just six points in the second quarter, all while the Cardinals scored an additional 11 to go up 31-18, and, queue it: the bleeding couldn’t, no–wouldn’t, be stopped. Warrensburg-Latham cruised to a 69-39 win. Read More
