SBD Swimmers Qualify For Regional Championship Team

Sullivan Blue Dolphins had nine swimmers qualify for the 2022 Summer Regional Championship team. They competed the weekend of July 15th at the Central Park Pool in Peoria. In order to attend this meet a swimmer must get a qualifying time in the event based on their age group. Illinois Swimming time standards are some of the toughest in the nation.

Sylvia Dawkins, age 10, of Sullivan, recently competed at National Championships for tumbling in Lakeland, FL. She earned an 8th place trophy overall out of 36 competitors.

Dolphins Recognize Swimmers at Awards Banquet

Sullivan Blue Dolphins recognized their swimmers for the 2021 season with an awards banquet. The following awards were presented:
Dedicated Award – Awarded to one swimmer by swimming age division. 6 & under Alice Watkins, 8 & under Scarlett Perrott and Bryce Badman, 10 & under Claire Standerfer and Eli Crosier, 11-12 Cadence Schmohe, 13-14 Nathan Rafferty.This is presented to the swimmer who works hard, gives it their all on a constant level. The coaches select a swimmer who is committed to working hard to beat his or her times. They have the stamina to attend practice and complete all work outs. A dedicated swimmer has the understanding that attending practice will bring success at meets. Read More

OV Middle School State Runners-up and Two State Champions

Okaw Valley Middle School track sent 10 student-athletes to the Class 2A state track meet on May 13-14 in East Peoria. All 10 students that qualified, medaled at the state meet. The 7th grade girls team, which also won Sectional 8 in Assumption the weekend of May 7th, took state runner-up honors home with them. Gabby Totten led the way when she won the 7th grade girls long jump with a leap of 16’6”, took 2nd in the 100m dash, and 4th in the 200m dash. Erin Harris solidified the team’s success when she won the 7th grade girls high jump with a height of 5’0”. Payton Booker brought home the 8th place medal for pole vault as a 6th grader. The girls 4x100m relay team of Kyah Calhoun, Keely Collins, Erin Harris, Gabby Totten, and alternate Payton Booker earned 5th place overall. The 8th grade boys 4x100m relay team of Wyatt Hildebrandt, Kwame Calhoun, Byron McCarrey, Braden Montgomery, and alternate Brady McQuilling, took 4th in the state. Kwame Calhoun also brought home medals for the 7th grade boys. Kwame earned 4th in pole vault, 5th in the 200m dash, and 5th in the 400m run. Great day on the track for these students and a great season all around.

Sullivan Girls Track at IHSA State Meet

Sullivan Girls Track at IHSA State Meet
The 4 x 100 relay of Barrett, Moore, Short, and Booker qualified for finals and finished in 8th place with a time of 51.36. Cassidy Short brought home another medal with a 7th place long jump finish, jumping 5.13 meters. Madalyn Booker competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing in 22nd place in a time of 1:02.14. Sofia Nuzzo competed in the Pole Vault, finishing in 17th place with a 2.90 meter vault. The 4 x 200 relay of Short, Hay, Moore, and Barrett finished in 14th place in a season best time of 1:49.1. The team is coached by Kali Taylor. 8th Grade Relay Team takes 7th at State
The 8th grade 4 x200 girls relay team traveled to the state track meet held in Washington, IL on Saturday, May 21. They were able to run their race between lightning and rain delays and ended up 7th out of 10 teams with a time of 1 minute and 59 seconds.

OV Girls Compete at IHSA State Meet
The IHSA State Meet was held at Eastern Illinois University last week. Okaw Valley sent the following girls to state: Aly Douglass, Mia Harris, Lindsey Ozier, Julia Schrock, Karlie Stauder and Kylie Stauder. The OVHS girls 4x400 team set a new school record with a time of 4:19.14 at the state meet. Those who qualified for last Saturday’s finals were Mia Harris in the high jump, Aly Douglass in the 800, Karlie Stauder in pole vault and Kylie Stauder in pole vault. Final results for Okaw Valley were Mia Harris 11th in high jump, Karlie Stauder seventh in pole vault, Kylie Stauder second in pole vault and Aly Douglass ninth in the 800 with a school record of 2:21.81. 8th Grade Girls Relay Team Statebound
The Sullivan 8th grade girls 4 by 200 relay team qualified for state over the weekend at the Shelbyville sectional meet. Pictured left to right, Devon Richardson, Mae Dawkins, Eiley Poe and Kharli Kelly. Also Devon qualified individually in the 200 meter dash. For the 8th grade boys Johnathon Iacobazzi is going to state individually in the mile. The state meet will be held this Saturday, May 21 in Washington, IL. The team is coached by Don Typer, Nicole Garrett, Jim Palmer and Drew Campbell.
