Millikin Women’s Basketball Favored to Win CCIW

The Millikin women’s basketball team was picked to defend its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) title in the 2021-22 CCIW Preseason Women’s Basketball poll released on October 28.
The Big Blue were 11-3 last season winning the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Millikin received 63 points in the poll including seven first place votes. Wheaton College was picked second with 58 points and two first place votes. Illinois Wesleyan and North Park tied for third with 45 points. Voting for the poll is done by the conference’s nine head women’s basketball coaches. Each coach votes for the eight other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (eight points for first, seven for second, etc.). Sullivan Volleyball
The Sullivan Volleyball team won its first match in the Class 2A Tolono Unity Regional but was defeated in the second match to end its’ season.
The Redskins knocked off Paris Monday, Oct. 25 in three sets.
Sullivan won the first set, 25-16, but Paris battled back to win the second set 25-20.
The Redskins won the third set 25-20 and advanced to the next regional match against host Tolono Unity.
For Sullivan, Skyla Palmer recorded nine kills and four blocks, and Landry Hall had five kills and served five aces.
Kyley Dyer finished with four blocks, 21 assists and 12 digs.
Cassidy Short and Sydni Waidelich totaled 17 and 15 digs, respectively. Read More

Volleyball
The Okaw Valley volleyball team ended its regular season on a four-game winning streak and winning its last 6-of-7 matches by defeating Meridian Monday, Oct. 18.
The Timberwolves won the non-conference game in straight sets, 25-20, 28-26.
Okaw Valley ended its regular season with an overall record of 21-10 and 8-2 in the Lincoln Prairie Conference.
The Timberwolves entered the Class 1A Central A&M Regional at Moweaqua this week.
No. 5-seeded Okaw Valley took on No. 12-seeded Cerro Gordo/Bement Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Winner took on the winner of Match 2 (Meridian or Arcola) Wednesday.
The championship match is set for Thursday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. Read More

Sullivan volleyball team ended the regular season with a five-game losing streak with two Central Illinois Conference losses last week.
The Redskins had their Senior Night spoiled by Tuscola Thursday, Oct. 21.
The Warriors won in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19
Monday, Oct. 18, Sullivan lost to Cerro Gordo/Bement in three sets.
Sullivan won the first set 25-22 but lost the next two, 25-16 and 25-14.
Landry Hill led the Redskins with nine kills, and Skyla Palmer finished with six kills and two blocks.
Chloe Smith and Kiley Dyer served two aces, and Rylee Roehrs had 21 digs.
Cassidy Short followed with 17 digs, and Dyer had 18 assists. Read More

After rattling off wins in 4-of-5 matches, Sullivan’s volleyball team stumbled in its next three matches.
In its last two matches, Sullivan lost a Central Illinois Conference match and a non-conference match.
The Redskins dropped a match to St. Teresa and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg this past week.
In a Central Illinois Conference match up on the road against St. Teresa, the Bulldogs dropped Sullivan in straight sets last Thursday.
St. Teresa won the first set 25-9 but had a harder time winning the second set at 25-21.
For the Redskins, Landry Hall had four kills, while Tessa Seeley and Maddie Probus each had three. Read More

Boys
During a tough fall sports season for Sullivan High School, the Sullivan boys’ golf team has given fans more than expected.
After winning the Central A&M Boys Golf Regional with a score of 314 at Moweaqua two Wednesdays ago, the Redskins placed fifth in the Boys Golf Sectional at Beecher Monday.
Sullivan finished with a team score of 350 in the 12-team sectional. Host Beecher won the sectional meet with a score of 323.
Camden Dwyer led the Redskins with a score of 82, and Del Diepholz followed with an 86.
Brett Bushue and Ben Bushue carded an 89 and 93, respectively.
Will Haegen shot a 96, and JJ Standerfer rounded out Sullivan’s scoring with a 107. Read More

Girls’ Golf
The Okaw Valley girls golf team tied for fourth with a score of 418 in IHSA Girls Golf Regional hosted by St. Teresa at the Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur Thursday.
Rohester won the regional with a low score of 350.
For the Timberwolves, Okaw Valley did not advance in the IHSA tournament, Junior Bailey Bennett carded a 97 to advanced to the IHSA Sectionals as an individual qualifier on Oct. 4.

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
