Sullivan High School Boys Cross County Takes Third At Home

The Sullivan boys’ cross country team competed in two large meets this past week.
The Redskins hosted the Sullivan Open at Sullivan High School Tuesday, Oct. 6, and then traveled to Clinton High School Cross Country Invitational Friday, Oct. 9.
The Redskins placed third with 68 points in the Sullivan Open. Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond won the meet with 23 team points, and Tuscola placed second with 57 points.
Villa Grove placed fourth with 93 points, Bement fifth with 142 and Hume-Shiloh sixth with 146.
For Sullivan, senior Chase McClure placed seventh with a time of 17:41. Read More

Sullivan Boys Golf Wins Central Illinois Conference Meet

The Sullivan boys’ golf checked off one of the team’s goals for this season by winning the Central Illinois Conference meet for the fourth year in a row.
“We went into the tournament knowing we could score really well there,” said Sullivan coach Ben Richter. “We shot a 145 earlier this year and that really boosted our confidence in playing at Mowequa. For the most part we had a solid front nine but fell off a bit on the back with a few scores in the mid 40s.”
The Redskins swept the first five spots to earn CIC all-conference honors and combine for a team score of 317.
Drew Rogers was medalist with the low score of 76.
Logan Westjohn shot a 78 for second place, and Camden Dwyer carded an 80 for third.
Leyton Ellis and Will Haegen each shot a 83 for fourth and fifth place, respectively. Read More

Okaw Valley Boys Cross Country Places Second

Several local area teams competed in the Lincoln Prairie Conference cross country meet at Crowder Park Saturday.
For the boys’ teams, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond swept the first three spots to help win the meet with 19 points.
Okaw Valley placed second (73), and Cumberland County followed in third (113).
Cerro Gordo scored 113 points for third, Villa Grove-Heritage 131 for fifth, Argenta-Oreana 140 for sixth, Bement 161 for seventh and Tri-County 163 for seventh.
For the ALAH Knights, senior Layton Hall won the meet with a time of 15:39.1, and juniors Logan Beckmier and Lyle Adcock placed second and third, respectively, with times of 16:32.0 and 17:15.4.
Junior Jace Green ran a 17:24.5 for fifth place, while sophomore Jacob Adcock crossed the line at 17:39.2 for eighth place. Read More

The Okaw Valley boys’ and girls’ golf teams competed in the Lincoln Prairie Conference tournament this past week.
Both teams placed second.
“I told both teams that our goal was to get at least second in this tournament, said Timberwolves’ coach Andrew Fultz. “I was very happy with the way that they played. The course today was very windy and made the play that much tougher.” Read More

The Sullivan boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in a triangular against Shelbyville and Warrensburg-Latham Monday, Sept. 28.
Each team took second place in the meet.
For the boys’ race, Jonathan Iacobazzi took first place with a time of 11:45.
Curtis Kite and Landon Jesse finished in the top ten with sixth and ninth place finished, respectively, with times of 12:33 and 13:27. Read More

Boys Golf Continues to be Undefeated

The Sullivan boys’ golf senior trio of Drew Rogers, Leyton Ellis and Logan Westjohn has spearheaded another undefeated season in 9-hole match for the Redskins with only a few meets left.
Sullivan is 23-0 in regular season 9-hole matches this season, and the seniors on the team are 89-1 in their varsity careers.
“Between Logan, Leyton, and Drew, they are always competing against each other in matches and in practice,” said Sullivan coach Ben Richter. “They are all really good friends and have been playing golf together for a really long time.” Read More

Okaw Valley’s Bailey Bennett Earns Medalist Honors At Triangular Meet

The Okaw Valley boys’ and girls’ golf teams competed in the triangular meet at Eagle Creek Golf Course Thursday, Sept. 24.
For the Okaw Valley girls’ golf team, Bailey Bennett’s hole-in-one on the eighth hole helped earn her medalist honors with the low score of 49, a season best.
“I joked with Bailey after her seventh hole of the evening,” Fultz said. “I said, ‘You are not playing bad at all, and let’s set a goal. If you par out (seven between the next two holes) you finish with your best score ever and break 50 (49).” Read More

Sullivan Places Fourth

The Sullivan boys’ and girls’ cross country team competed against four teams at Cerro Gordo Monday, Sept. 21, and in the Great Pumpkin Patch meets Friday.
The Redskins placed fourth in the Great Pumpkin Patch meet near Arthur with 97 points.
Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond won the meet with 21 points, and Iroquois West and Okaw Valley placed second and third, respectively, with 65 and 85 points.
For Sullivan, Chase McClure placed ninth with a time of 17:34, and Peyton Pool took 12th place.
Canon West and Dakota Freese placed 23rd and 25th with times of 19:08 and 19:25, in that order. Read More

OV Golf Team Affected By COVID-19

For the last few years, Okaw Valley boys’ golf team has quietly become one of the most competitive teams in central Illinois.
When other golf teams in the area travel to Okaw Valley’s home golf course, Eagle Creek, opponents know they are in for a tough fight.
Though finishing behind undefeated Sullivan golf team, Okaw Valley had been defeating or matching up well against other teams central in Illinois. Read More
