Cross Country Club Championships Held

On Saturday, Oct. 31, cross country runners around the state ended their sectional meet knowing they would not have an opportunity to compete in an official 2020 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state meet.

SHS Golf Teams Hold Awards Banquets

Hannah Righter took home the Most Improved Award during the girls’ golf team fall banquet last Tuesday.

The Sullivan boys’ and girls’ golf team hosted Awards Banquets at the VFW Hall in Sullivan last Tuesday.
Only team members and coaches attended in person because of current Illinois Department of Public Health limitations on gatherings.
Several athletes collected individual awards.
For the boys’ team, Drew Rogers won Most Valuable Player (Lowest Average) Award.
Logan Westjohn left with the Leadership Award, and Will Haegan earned the award for Most Improved Average Score.
Leyton Ellis earned the Redskin Award. Read More

Basketball Season To Start Nov 16

Governor J.B. Pritzker’s announcement to move basketball from a medium risk sport to a high-risk sport last Tuesday caught nearly every athletic director, coach and player in the state completely off guard.
To add more confusion and frustration around the topic, the following day, the IHSA stated that basketball would be a local decision, and the basketball season will start on Monday, Nov. 16.
Basketball previously had been considered a medium risk Level 2 sport allowing intrasquad scrimmages while wearing masks.

ALAH Boys’ Cross Country

The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond boys’ cross country teams competed in the IHSA Class 1A Cross Country Sectional at Hickory Point Golf Course Saturday.
The Knights celebrated Halloween by winning the Sectional meet with 62 team points. St. Joseph-Ogden followed in placed second with 76 points.
Senior Knight Layton Hall won the meet with a time of 15:27.6.

ALAH Boys Cross Country Wins Regional, Girls Place Seventh

Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond boys’ and girls’ team competed in the IHSA Class 1A Cross Boys’ Country St. Teresa Regional in Decatur Saturday, Oct. 24.
The ALAH boys’ team won its meet, while the girls’ team placed seventh.
The boys’ team won the regional with 44 team points.
In his senior year, Knight Layton Hall won the meet with a time of 15:33.0
The Knights also placed three runners in the top ten spots. Read More

Sullivan Boys Cross Country Places Sixth At Regional

The Sullivan boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the IHSA Class 1A Cross Country Chrisman Regional Saturday, Oct. 24.
For the first time during the season, spectators were allowed to attend the meet provided they maintain social distancing, wore a face covering, and were not allowed on the course at any point.
The Sullivan girls’ cross country team did not have enough runners for a team score, but one Redskin, sophomore Tori Turnbaugh, advanced to the sectional meet in Decatur at Hickory Point Golf Course Saturday, Oct. 31. Read More

OV Boys Cross Country Places Ninth

The Okaw Valley boys’ cross country has had a tough and long year dealing with Covid restrictions and illnesses on the team.
But, according to head coach Bill Brown, the Okaw Valley runners pushed through the season and still made strides.

Sullivan Girls Cross Country Competes at Central Illinois Conference Meet

Though the Sullivan girls’ cross country team did not have enough runners to fill a full team this season, three runners have competed as if running for a team score.
Sullivan’s three runners competed in the 7th Annual Central Illinois Conference meet at Forest Park in Shelbyville Thursday, Oct. 15.
Sophomore Tori Turnbaugh ran a season-best time of 21:26.3 for 13th place. Read More

Sullivan Boys Golf Takes Second at Sectionals

The Sullivan boys’ golf team took second place in the IHSA Class 1A Golf Sectionals at Ironhorse Golf Course in Tuscola Tuesday, Oct. 13.

During any other season, the Redskins would have been moving onto the state tournament the following week. Instead, this year, because of Covid-19, the IHSA has ended the season with sectional meets.

Sullivan scored a 339 in the 10-team sectional, while Paso-Gridley won the sectional meet with a team score of 320.

Camden Dwyer led the team in scoring, placing eighth with an 82, but Will Haegan had the best shot of the day with a hole-in-one on the par-3 15th hole. Read More

Helmeth receives Amtryke

River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
