Three commit to continue football careers at next level
•April 10, 2024•
It comes as no surprise that more than one player from the SOV squad has committed to playing at the next level. Three signed last week.
Aiden Ballinger and Kyle Corkill both signed with Millikin University. Ballinger led the team in reception yards per game with 99.5. The two would go back-to-back in receiving touchdowns with Ballinger hauling in six and Corkill five. Corkill would add another touchdown with a kickoff return in the final game of the season.
Easton England signed his commitment letter Friday. The senior kicker will be traveling north to Appleton, WI to continue his studies and kick for the Lawrence University Vikings. England taught himself to kick between his junior and senior years in order to play his first season ever of football. The lefty kicker was successful in 27 of his attempts.

Sullivan softball was slated for a busy schedule last week. The weather had other ideas though as the first three games of the week were called off. The girls were able to get in a Friday game at home before taking to the road the following day.
With somewhat clear skies on Friday, Sullivan welcomed the Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis. Harmony Ray, Emerson Riley, and Taylar Mercer were the only Sullivan batters to get hits during the game. Teutopolis pitcher Alyssa Tipton gave up those three hits as she would go on to throw the complete game giving up zero runs and striking out eight Sullivan batters. Read More

The girls track team had a rainout last Tuesday, but that gave them an extra day to prepare for the grueling seven hour ALAH invitational on Friday. Amidst the full parking lots, crowded walkways, and various aromas from the several food vendors, the Sullivan girls were able to return home with a fourth place finish out of 19 teams. Read More

Outdoor Track Starts for Lady Redskins with Home Meet

Four teams traveled to Sullivan last Tuesday (3/19) to kick off the outdoor track season for girls’ track. Despite several high placed finishes, the Lady Redskins couldn’t keep up with the Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis.
Veteran coach Kali Taylor believes though that this will be a fun year in which underclassmen serve as the majority on a team that features just one senior. “I’m very excited to see what this young group is going to accomplish as we begin the season.”
Coach Taylor says this could be her most talented group she’s seen across the board. “I’ve waited a long time to have enough athletes to fill every event, and it’s an exciting opportunity for these kids to be a part of the success that we have had in girls track over the last several years.” And they did have athletes in nearly every event but pole vault. Not only that, several found themselves within the top 10 and routinely in the top five. Freshman Julia Moody was just barely edged out from first place in the 1600m by an ALAH runner. The time difference between first place and Moody’s second place was just under three seconds. Read More

Teams from Arthur, Arcola, Teutopolis, and Villa Grove came to Sullivan last Tuesday (3/19) only to be served up on a platter and devoured by a strong Sullivan team. The second place team was behind first place Sullivan by almost 150 points.
Davis Diepholz and Landon Jesse finished second and third in the 3200m to start the meet off. Sullivan placed first in the next event, the 4x800m. This would be one of many first places the team would have. That relay team consisted of Hayden Moody, Owen Hussong, Easton England, and Johnathan Iacobazzi. The 4x100m relay of Kaden Guest, Mason Booker, Aian Fryman, and Kyle Corkill ran next and secured yet another first place. Read More
