Hole in One for Ellis at Ironwood Classic

Ironwood Classic Champions: Ryan Rochholz - 3rd (Moline, IL), Caden Ellis - 1st (Sullivan, IL), Alex McCulla - 2nd (Quincy, IL), Aydin Folker - 4th (Jacksonville, IL)

Sullivan senior Caden Ellis recorded a hole-in-one during the first round of the Prep Tour Ironwood Classic.
Ellis struck the shot on the 16th hole in rainy and windy conditions at Ironwood Golf Course.
Ellis went on to win the 2-day event.
For the Redskins in the fall, Ellis earned all-state honors with a tie for third place with a score of 76, earned first-team all-area honors.
He was medalist in the regional and sectional titles and finished with a 35.7 nine-hole average.

Sullivan Softball Team Takes Okaw Valley in Extra Innings

The Sullivan softball team lost two games last week but bounced back Saturday to defeat Okaw Valley 6-5 with a walk-off fielder’s choice by Alexis Britton in extra innings.
Against OV, Sullivan fell behind 3-0 in the first inning when Madison Vogel tripled in two of the team’s three first-inning runs.
Sullivan tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second inning when Katie Honchell, Irie Dulin and Caprice Smith each drove in runs.
OV took the lead again in the third with a run and added to that lead with another run in the fifth inning.
Sullivan scored again in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 5-4, and in the seventh inning Smith recorded another RBI to send the game into extra innings. Read More

ALAH Baseball Throttles Arcola at the Plate

The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond baseball team throttled Arcola 14-0 Friday then tied Altamont 2-2 in a 12-inning game Monday.
Against Altamont the Knights scored two runs in the first inning, and Altamont scored its two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game.
Neither team could score in the next five innings. Read More

Okaw Valley Baseball Bats Blast Cerro Gordo/Bement

The Okaw Valley baseball team dropped two-of-three games last week.
The Timberwolves lost to Decatur Lutheran and Sullivan in pitchers’ duels and blew out Cerro Gordo/Bement 14-1.
Against Cerro Gordo/Bement Friday, OV’s offensive exploded in two innings, scoring six runs in the first and seven runs in the third.
The Timberwolves tacked on another run in the fourth for the win in five innings.
OV pounded out 13 hits. Read More

SHS Girls’ Track Correction

In the Sullivan Girls Track Quadrangular Meet report Mallory Nichols triple jumped 29 feet 7 inches for third place. We incorrectly reported Adalee Nichols as making the jump.

ALAH Softball Team Clinches Conference Championship

The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond softball team no-hit Blue Ridge in back-to-back blowout games last Wednesday then knocked off Arcola Friday to clinch the Little Okaw Valley Northwest Conference championship.
Friday against the Riders, ALAH scored a run in the first two innings, but Arcola cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the third.
The Knights scored two runs in the fourth inning, one run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to take control for the 7-2 win.
Marissa Herschberger was two-for-three with three runs scored, and Reagan Miller was one-for-three with two runs scored.
Makenzie Brown went one-for-three with two RBIs, and Molly Day knocked in a run and scored two runs.
Rylie Kauffman also knocked in a run.
In the circle, Shelby Frederick (10-2) got the win. She pitched four innings and allowed one run on five hits and one walk. She struck out four. Read More

A Good Day at the Plate for the Okaw Valley Softball Team

The Okaw Valley softball team defeated Cerro Gordo/Bement but lost to Sullivan last week.
Friday OV scored two runs in each of the first two innings for a 4-1 lead.
The Broncos scored a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Timberwolves answered with two runs to extend their lead to 6-2.
CGB scored two more runs in the fifth, but OV held off the Broncos in the last two innings for the 6-4 win.
For the Timberwolves, Madison Vogel and Grace Bunfill led the team with two hits.
Vogel added two runs scored and one RBI, and Bunfill had two RBIs and one run scored.
Bella Benning knocked in a run and scored a run, and Paige Coleman scored a run.
Miaya Lehman also knocked in a run.
Bunfill went seven innings in the circle, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out 10.
OV lost to Sullivan on Saturday 6-5.

Sullivan Girls Place at Invitational Meet

The Sullivan girls’ track and field team placed seventh with 29 points in the 20-team Monticello Girls’ Invitational on Friday.
“We continue to see new personal records achieved each meet as we prepare for conference later this week,” said coach Kali Taylor.
Esther Miller took first in the triple jump at 34 feet 6 inches and second place in the 40-meter dash with a time of 1:02.35.
Emily White cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump to finish in fourth, and Zoe Walton cleared 4 feet 8 inches for fifth place.
Katherine Kite placed sixth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:49, and the Redskins’ 1,600-meter relay team of Natalie Drury, Josie Orris, White and Miller took fourth place with a time of 4:27.79. Read More

Sullivan High School student Claire Kursell recently participated in the Central Illinois High School Art Exhibition at Millikin University. She received an honorable mention for her piece, “Bride of Frankenstein”.
