New SOV head varsity football coach Andy Kerley.

Sullivan-Okaw Valley announced that Andy Kerley has been hired as the new head varsity football coach.

“Sullivan is a community I’ve always had great experiences with as a visiting coach,” said Kerley. “From the other sideline the support levels have always seemed good. The town, the administration, everyone seems to support the programs of the school, and that is a great positive when looking at a place as a potential working environment. The infrastructure is mostly in place already to allow the program to blossom.”

Kerley spent seven years as the Cerro Gordo-Bement Broncos head coach with four playoff berths (2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015) and a 42-28 record.

He coached at Shelbyville for a year before taking the Cerro Gordo position.

At Cerro Gordo-Bement, he was selected as the Decatur Herald and Review Macon County Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2013, and he also was named as the ESPN 1050 Decatur Coach of the Year in 2013.

This summer should be very important to Kerley, and he cannot wait to start. Read More

OV Graduate to Enter National Baseball Hall of Fame

News Progress Posted on April 5, 2017 by webmasterApril 4, 2017

•April 5, 2017•

Okaw Valley 2013 graduate Eldon Yeakel will be entering the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum on June 5.

Not as a player, of course, but instead as an intern.

Yeakel is the recipient of the 2017 Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Youth Leadership Development that last from June 5 to Aug. 11.

“I always enjoyed playing and watching sports growing up and once my love for history started to expand then it was a perfect combination of my two interests,” Yeakel said. “I was really intrigued with the internship given that the family that funds the internship was an avid baseball card collector and a Pittsburgh Pirates fan and I have been a huge Pirates fan since I was young and have collected a large sum of baseball cards.”

To be selected, Yeakel’s application that included a cover letter, resume, and three recommendations warranted an interview about why he applies, what he wanted to do at the museum and what he planned to do as a career. Read More
