Father-son pair bring in 14.77lbs. of fish

Bright and early Saturday morning with the sun coming up over the water and peaking out from behind the scattered clouds, Illinois-Kaskaskia Fishers of Men Legacy series tournament anglers left Wolf Creek State Park searching to fill their livewell with that limit of fish that would push them to the lead in points standing.

At takeoff it was a very close race to get the points champion leader award, but as fish were brought to the scales, it was clear that the father- son duo of Mike & Dalton McGill of Findlay would win the first place award and probably the points champion award. The two brought four fish to the weigh-in, with the first being a large bass weighing 6.18 pounds. Their total weight came to 14.77 pounds. This, in turn, made their large bass the winner of the big bass for this event but also was big bass for the season.

The second place team of Elmo Weaver and Kaleb Wood, both of Sullivan, brought in three fish weighing a total of 4.30 pounds. This marks Wood’s last year to fish Legacy as a junior after completing eight years as a junior member with many of those years boasting a team as points champions.

Third place went to a new team of Hal Burngner and his grandson Colten Wilkins who brought a single fish to the scales that weighed 1.30 pounds. Wilkins was visiting from Missouri and wanted to fish with his grandfather. Read More

The Sullivan Blue Dolphins kicked off a busy weekend Friday May 30 with a motivational lock in party.  Head coach Jason Drury each year sets a challenge for the swimmers to achieve with this year’s goal to obtain enough splashes by competing at swim meets.

Drury’s idea is to reinforce what the hard work at practice achieves.
Older swimmers requested a lock in party as the motivational reward for this season.  The evening had everything from laser tag, challenges to earn tickets to win prizes, obstacle course, scavenger hunts, photo booth, movies, dolphin themed food and a yellow and blue (team colors) candy table.   Read More

Defensive tenacity to be big asset for Red Lions

Last fall, Okaw Valley senior Abigail Weybright put on her blue and black no. 10 uniform, laced up her shoes, and got ready for what she believed would be the last basketball season of her life.

Little did the now-graduated athlete know, she would be starting a new athletic journey as she now prepares to attend Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, where she has signed to play basketball for the Red Lions.

Before deciding on LCU, Weybright did not know exactly what career path she wanted to choose.

This time, ALAH’ season comes to an end

Just about every ball that Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond put into play Tuesday evening, the Sullivan defense either grabbed and made the putout or outright caught. Whats more, they had no errors, and behind seven innings of solid pitching by Heidi Clements, the Lady Red held ALAH to one run and five hits, while their own offense chipped away inning by inning to win 6-1 and earning a trip to the regional championship Saturday back in Shelbyville against the host. Upends ALAH’s perfect conference record

It was a situation all too familiar for Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.

Just a week earlier, the Lancers were down 6-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, made the comeback, and won in extras in Arcola to maintain their perfection in LOVC play.

But perfection ended Thursday night, and it came at the hands of Okaw Valley, 6-5, sealed by Amy Orris’ bases loaded, two out, two RBI single to right centerfield.  Read More
