OVHS Athletes Recognized

Garrett Fritz and Natalie Jeffers were named JGTC athletes of the week. Fritz was the winning pitcher against Greenfield throwing an inning and two thirds and allowing two hits with five strikeouts, no walks and no runs. At the plate for the week he was 4-for-6 (.667) with four runs, a double, three stolen bases and a run batted in.

Jeffers was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double, two home runs and five runs batted in from her leadoff spot in a 17-3 victory over CHBC.

Okaw Valley seniors Paige Robinson, Hope Ruppert, and Jared Bunfill participated in the first annual Skywalker All-Star game held in Decatur. Robinson won the three point contest by hitting 10 threes and also was named MVP of the game recording a triple-double. She had 14 pts, 10 asst., 10 rebounds and four blocks. Pictured OV All stars are Ruppert and Robinson wearing the OV one last time and Jared Bunfill.

Eleven Run Inning Seals Win For Okaw Valley  Softball

Last Thursday, the Okaw Valley softball team improved its record to 3-3 with a 17-3 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

The game was the Timberwolves first since March 22 against Morrisonville.

After a scoreless first inning, OV plated a run in the second inning and one in the third inning.

OV took a 6-1 lead in the fourth inning, but it was an 11-run seventh inning that put the game away. Read More

At the Sullivan-Okaw Valley Swimming Banquet on March 21, the following awards were received: Brodie Goss: Team Captain and High Point Sectional; Justin Helmuth: Most Improved; Anna Wooters: Most Improved and Sectional High Point; Natalie Drury and McKenna Kull: Co-Captains.

St. Teresa Tops Sullivan Baseball

The Sullivan baseball team dropped a Central Illinois Conference game against St. Teresa in Decatur last Thursday.

Sullivan took the lead in the first inning with a run and added on a run in the third inning, but the Bulldogs scored three runs in the third to take the 3-2 lead.

St. Teresa scored four in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the game 7-2. Read More

Timberwolves Defy Weather for Two Wins

Despite the rain, high winds and snow, the Okaw Valley baseball team slipped in two games last week.

The Timberwolves toppled rival Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 10-0 in Bethany and knocked off Greenfield 10-5 Saturday.

The two wins extended OV’s winning streak to 7-0 to start the season.

Against ALAH, OV scored three runs in the first inning and three in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead.

The Timberwolves tacked on two runs in the fifth inning and a run in the sixth to end the game.

Trey Yarnell and Austin Harshman each three hits, and Hutson Dickens had two hits for Okaw Valley.

Yarnell also had two RBIs as did Tanner Coleman. Read More

Redskins Softball Team Tops St. Teresa

The Sullivan softball team split a pair of games this past week.

The Redskins defeated St. Teresa last Thursday but lost to Windsor-Stewardson Strasburg, Saturday, April 7.

Against St. Teresa, Sullivan took the lead early and did not look back.

The Redskins scored seven runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and four runs in the third inning.  Read More

ALAH Basketball Represented Well in All Area Game

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond’s basketball program was well represented at the News Gazette’s 7th Annual All-Area Game at Parkland College’s Dodds Athletic Center in Champaign Sunday afternoon.

Seniors Hannah Wallen and Colton Romine participated in the all-star game with a focus on having fun.

“I expected to come and have fun, and it’s obvious these are tough girls; they’re good, players to be invited to play here,” said Wallen. “It was a lot of fun.”

Wallen scored eight points in the game, including a last-second deep 3-pointer to end the third quarter to help her gold team defeat the black team 62-47.

“Somebody started counting down and the clock said 1.7, so I just chucked it, and it went in,” she said. Read More

Sullivan Girls’ Track Team is First at Meridian Quad

The Sullivan girls’ track and field team took first place in the Macon Meridian Quad last Wednesday at Meridian High School.

The Redskins scored 59 points to defeat Meridian, Warrensburg-Latham and Athens.

Katherine Kite took first place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:20.02, and she placed second in the 800-meter run at 2:48.92.

Haley Rose placed first in the 300-meter hurdles at 50.58 and third in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.56. Read More

SES Preschool carnival a hit

On Thursday, May 15th SES and PTO sponsored a Preschool Carnival that included lunch, face painting, bounce houses, snow cone truck, playground activities, and games set up by sponsoring attendees. Pictured is Jasper Rhodes, age 5, who actively enjoyed everything on offer, including chasing bubbles.
