Sullivan Redskins Baseball Battles Back but Falls Short

The Sullivan baseball team dropped a close game to Villa Grove last Wednesday.

Each team scored in the first inning, and Sullivan took the lead in the second inning.

VG retook the lead in the top of the third inning with two run and added one in the fifth inning and two in the sixth for the 6-2 lead.

The Redskins battled back with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and two runs in the seven, but eventually fell short in the 6-5 loss. Read More

Sylvia Dawkins won first place for her floor exercise at the Prairieland Tumbling and Trampoline sponsored tumbling meet held in Pana over the weekend. Sylvia is the daughter of Bret and Alice Dawkins of Sullivan.

WSS Baseball Team Splits a Pair

The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg baseball split a pair of games this week,

The Hatchets defeated Shelbyville last Thursday, but lost to Okaw Valley the following day.

Against Shelbyville, the Rams took the lead in the top of the second inning, but WSS scored two in the bottom of the inning to take the lead 2-1. Read More

Green Wave’s Second Inning Put Sullivan Baseball Team Away

The Sullivan baseball team dropped its season opener at home to Mattoon 12-2 Friday, March 16.

The Green Wave scored 11 runs in the second inning, and Sullivan could not recover.

Sullivan scored its first run in the second inning when Zach Sowers singled then scored on Ian Hill’s fielder’s choice.

The Redskins scored again in the third inning when two Green Wave errors led Spencer Johnson to reach base, then later score. Read More

Road Games Hinder ALAH Softball Team

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond softball team dropped two road games this week to start the season at 0-3.

The Knights lost to Tuscola last Thursday and Monticello Friday, March 16.

Against Monticello, one rough inning doomed the Knights in a 5-1 loss.

The Sages scored five runs on four errors in the second inning but were held scoreless the rest of the game. Read More

WSS Opens Softball Season with Two Wins

The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg softball team started the season by winning its first two games.

The Hatchets shutout Shelbyville 7-0 last Thursday and knocked off Central A&M 7-4 last Tuesday.

Against Shelbyville, the game was close until WSS scored two runs in the fourth inning.

The Hatchets followed with a run in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth inning to pull away.

WS totaled eight hits, with Calla Roney hitting a home run. Read More

ALAH Track Grabs Seven of Eight Spots

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond boys track team placed seven athletes in the top eight spots in the 74-team Charleston High School Indoor Boys’ Invitational Saturday at Eastern Illinois University.

Logan Hall and Billy Fifer were the Knights top performers.

Hall ran the 1,600-meter run in 4:21.16 for first place in his heat, and Fifer ran the 60-meter dash in 7.72 for first. Read More

Okaw Valley senior Garrett Fritz tallied five hits, including two home runs, and 10 RBIs in wins against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Friday, March 16, and Mt. Pulaski Wednesday, March 14.

Against WSS, Fritz homered twice, scored three runs and had four RBIs to help the Timberwolves to a 10-0 win in six innings.

OV scored two in the first inning, three in the third inning, then scored five more runs in the next two innings.

Trey Yarnell was 2-for-3 with RBIs, and Austin Harshman had a hit, a run, a stolen base and one RBI. Read More

Sullivan HS Softball Faces Cumberland

The Sullivan softball team dropped a non-conference game to Cumberland 7-1 Friday, March 16.

The Pirates are ranked 13th in Class 1A in the Illinois Coaches Association poll.

Cumberland jumped out early with a 2-0 first inning lead, then tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning. Read More

Okaw Valley High School senior Cameron Nickerson committed to Illinois College in Jacksonville to continue his academic and athletic career. He will play golf for the Blueboys. He is the son of Steve and Tara Nickerson.

SES Preschool carnival a hit

On Thursday, May 15th SES and PTO sponsored a Preschool Carnival that included lunch, face painting, bounce houses, snow cone truck, playground activities, and games set up by sponsoring attendees. Pictured is Jasper Rhodes, age 5, who actively enjoyed everything on offer, including chasing bubbles.
