Sullivan track teams hosts quad meet

The Sullivan track teams hosted Effingham (St. Anthony), Cerro-Gordo/Bement and Tuscola April 1st with both teams finishing second.

Lady Redskins with top five finishes were:

Kelsie Hodge - 1st 200m Dash, 2nd 100m Dash

Mya Dyer - 2nd Long Jump, 3rd 200m Dash, 3rd 100m Dash

Minor earns Special Mention from IBCA

Sullivan High School standout Addison Minor has been recognized with a Special Mention honor by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) for her contributions to the Lady Redskins basketball program. This prestigious recognition highlights Addison’s talent, dedication, and impact on the court throughout the season.

As a key player for the Lady Redskins, Minor demonstrated exceptional skill, leadership, and determination, helping to drive her team forward in a competitive season. Her ability to contribute offensively and defensively made her a standout athlete, earning respect from both teammates and opponents alike.

Minor signs with Illinois College

Last Thursday, Lady Redskin Addison Minor, with her family signed her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Illinois College. Addison, who has played basketball since 6th grade, shared, “I’m really looking forward to playing basketball for four more years, and at-tending Illinois college allows me to be away from home, but not too far away. It’s been a dream of mine to play basketball at the collegiate level, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to join Illinois College,” said Minor. “I want to thank my coaches, teammates, family, and everyone who has supported me along the way. Dolphins compete at Winter Regional Championships

Blue Dolphins had a great showing at Winter Regional Championships sending 17 swimmers who swam 72 individual events. 

Blue Dolphins went to the podium 48 individual times and every swimmer finished in the top 20 of all 72 events. SBD also two swimmers who qualified for state in their individual events. Kinsley Eads qualified in the Girls 10&u 50 butterfly and 10&u 100 butterfly. Emily Crosier qualified in the girls 1,000 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and 50 breaststroke.

Crosier also qualified for the Central Zone North Speedo Championship in Rochester, MN where she swam the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, and 200IM.

8th Grade Lady Redskins fall to Morris Saratoga

In last Friday’s State tournament held in Pana, Sullivan’s Lady Redskins fell to Morris Saratoga in two sets 25-9, 25-3. On the upside, it was the First State Tournament appearance in school history, Sectional Champions, and Regional Champions. Emma Drake and Elin Watkins were awarded the IESA Sportsmanship pin for showing outstanding sportsmanship in the Regional Championship and Sectional Championship games for showing a positive attitude towards teammates, opponents, and officials as well as elevating the play and behavior of their peers.  

A pep rally was held last Friday to send the girls off. The team finished the season 18-6.

Sullivan High School’s Schafer Ogle inks for Millikin

Iacobazzi competes

Sullivan Track Athlete Johnny Iacobazzi received an invitation to run at the Central Illinois High Performance Classic Indoor Meet held at Illinois College on Saturday, March 15th. Iacobazzi had a great performance, earning 3rd place in the 1600m with a time of 4:31.51, amongst some of the strongest distance runners in the state of Illinois.

Poppies to honor those who gave all

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
