Sullivan Competes at St. Teresa Tournament

The Sullivan boys’ basketball team finished the St. Teresa Team Soy Christmas Tournament 1-3 this past week.

Sullivan Girls Place Fifth at Mattoon Tournament

The Sullivan girls’ basketball team placed fifth in the Mattoon Holiday Tournament this past week.

The team finished 3-2 and Esther Miller earned all-tournament team honors.

Sullivan defeated St. Anthony and Salem twice but lost to Altamont and Galesburg.

“With the exception of the Galesburg game, I thought we played well the entire tournament,” said Sullivan coach Sheri McCain.

Okaw Valley Boys Roll Past WSS

The Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team rolled over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 43-36 last Tuesday night.

The game was tight throughout.

After a first-quarter 4-4 tie, OV took a 1-point lead into half, 15-14.

The Timberwolves took advantage of a 17-12 fourth quarter run to put the game away. Read More

Wallen Breaks 1000 at Knights Classic

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball team placed second in the Knights Classic Holiday Tournament this past week, and senior Knight Hannah Wallen scored her 1,000th career point against Cumberland Friday.

During the Knights Classic Holiday Tournament, ALAH defeated Cumberland and Chrisman to reach the championship game against Decatur St. Teresa.

In the championship game, though, the Knights lost to the Bulldogs 65-61.

St. Teresa jumped out to a 13-7 first-quarter lead and took a 32-23 lead at the half.

The Knights outscored the Bulldogs 19-13 in the third quarter cutting the lead to three points, 45-42.

St. Teresa held on in the fourth for the eventful 65-61 win. Read More

OV Girls’ Basketball Team Wins Holiday Tournament

The Okaw Valley girls’ basketball team gave the fans a great Christmas gift by winning the 17th annual Okaw Valley Holiday Tournament Friday.

OV won two games, defeating Decatur LSA and Martinsville.

In the championship game, OV defeated Martinsville 59-24 to finish the tournament with a 5-0 record.

Paige Robinson scored a game-high 23 points, including 15 points in the first quarter.

Danielle Hill and Kate Jeffers each scored eight points, and Clara Perry had seven points. Read More

The Redskins lost to Decatur Lutheran and Mt. Pulaski.

Rams Put Away the Knights

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team dropped a nonconference game 69-51 against Shelbyville Friday.

“We started very well getting great shots, and defensively, we were very active and did a great job competing on the boards and for loose balls,” said ALAH coach Dale Schuring.

The Rams took a 30-21 halftime lead, but it was a 25-14 third quarter run that put the game away.

“Our downfall was turnovers,” Schuring said. “The second half they dictated the game at both ends of the floor.” Read More

ALAH Girls Knock Off St. Anthony Saturday

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball team split a pair of games this past week.

The Knights lost to Central A&M last Thursday but knocked off St. Anthony Saturday.

“Our team was like Jekyll and Hyde between the two games we played last week,” said ALAH coach Mac Condill.

Against St. Anthony, ALAH took advantage of a 14-6 second quarter run to take a 26-17 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs cut the lead to eight heading into the fourth, but the Knights pulled away for the 48-36 win. Read More

New royalty to be crowned
The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
