Okaw Valley Softball Wins Four for the Week

The Okaw Valley softball team finished the week 4-1.

OV split a double header Saturday, shut out Mt. Pulaski Friday and Ramsey Thursday and knocked off Shiloh Wednesday.

OV defeated Tri-County/Shiloh 11-1 at Crowder Park.

Tri-County jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a long home run

which was the only run of the day for Tri-County.

Okaw Valley tied the game in the bottom of the first on Paige Coleman’s 1-out single to left.

Paige Robinson walked to put runners at first and second.

Jess Robinson and Kayla Wheeler had back-to-back walks to force in Coleman to tie the game.

OV erupted for four runs in the second to take command of the game.  Read More

ALAH Girls’ Track Team Competes for Top Spots

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond girls’ track competed in two meets this past week.

ALAH participated in the Tri-County Invitational in Sullivan last Tuesday and the T Tuscola Open Invitational Friday.

At the Tuscola Open, ALAH several athletes in the top five spots.

Kenli Nettles took first places in 110-meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles and the long jump.

She ran the 100 hurdles in 16.98, the 300 hurdles in 50.77 and jumped 5 feet 7 inches.

Makenna Green took second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:10.35, and she ran the 1,600-meter run in 6:07.69 for fourth place. Read More

SOV Girls’ Track Team Places in Two Meets

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley girls’ track and field team competed in two meets this week.

In the Tolono Girls’ Invite Thursday, the Redskins placed three athletes in the top 10.

Laine Cameron placed seventh in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.40.

Zoe Ray and Natalie Drury placed ninth in the long jump and high jump, respectively.

Ray jumped 14 feet and 8 inches, and Drury jumped four feet and six inches. Read More

SOV Boys’ Track Takes Top Spots in Macon County

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley boys’ track and field team competed in two meets this past week.

Thursday, the Redskins competed in the 13-team Macon County meet.

Several Redskins finished in the top three spots in their finals.

Jadon Nuzzo won the pole vault at 13 foot 1 inch, and Logan Pedigo followed in second at 12 feet and 1 inch.

Payton Westjohn won his finals heat with a time of 24.98, while Luke Bowman and Cullen Dyer were second and third in the heats.

Dyer also placed third in his finals head in the 400 meter at 1:00.93. Read More

Three Wins for Sullivan Softball Team

The Sullivan softball team finished the week with a 3-2 record.

The Redskins defeated Central A&M, Arcola and Shelbyville and lost to Clinton and Monticello.

Central A&M Friday

Irie Dulin recorded four RBIs on two hits to help the Bulldogs overtake the Raiders 14-9 in an error filled game. Sullivan scored seven runs in the first inning and two in the second to take an early lead and did not look back.

Jordan Bassett, Brook Tuttle and Dulin each had two hits. Bassett also had two RBIs. Madison Wall pitched seven innings and struck out four. The Raiders made eight errors while Sullivan had four.

Knights’ Bats were Swinging at Bronco Game

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond baseball team finished the week 1-2 with a win against Cerro Gordo/Bement and losses to Heritage and Arcola.

Wednesday, the Knights scored 14 runs in the first inning to defeat the Broncos 21-4. Marcus Vanausdoll drove in six runs and scored three runs on three hits and a walk.

Lucas Otto had four RBIs and scored two runs on three hits, and Derek Rhodes tallied three RBIs and two runs scored. Kirk Herschberger drove in two runs and scored three, and Shandon Herschberger scored three runs on two hits and a walk. Read More

ALAH Shuts Out CG/Bement

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond softball team shut out Cerro Gordo/Bement 8-0 Wednesday.

The Knights scored a run in the first inning, two in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Logan Kauffman scored two runs on two hits, and Reagan Miller tallied three hits, a run scored and two RBIs. Read More

ALAH Boys’ Track Gets Three Top Spots

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond boys’ track and field team competed in the Fisher Invitational Thursday, April 13.

The following Knights placed in the top three spots in their final heats.

Jordan Miller ran the 800-meter run in 2:13.39 for first place, and Mitchell Bernius triple jumped 36 feet and 1 inch for second place. Read More

OV Baseball Dominates Opponents of the Week

The Okaw Valley baseball team dominated in four wins by defeating each opponent by 10 runs or more this week.

The Timberwolves defeated Arcola, Shelbyville, Cerro Gordo and Neoga.

Arcola Monday

After taking a 3-point lead in the third inning, the Timberwolves scored three runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings for a 12-2 win. OV totaled 12 hits and played errorless in the field.

In the first inning, OV scored when Connor Cloyd singled with two outs.

In the seventh, singles by Garrett Fritz and Tanner Coleman and an error scored the runs. Taylor Coleman earned the win. He pitched six innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out five.

Coleman, Cloyd, Fritz, and Hagerman each collected multiple  hits. Fritz went 2-for-5 with four RBIs.

The Okaw Valley softball team finished the week 2-2 with wins against Arcola and Cerro Gordo/DeLand-Weldon and losses to Heyworth and Meridian.

Monday against Arcola, Maddie Perrine shut out the Purple Riders 5-0, striking out 14 batters.

OV scored three runs in the first inning and tacked on a run in the third and fourth innings.

Paige Coleman, Paige Robinson and Grace Harlin each recorded two hits, and Paige Robinson and Natalie Jeffers each drove in a run.

The Timberwolves played errorless ball in the field.

Against Cerro Gordo/DeLand-Weldon Friday, the Timberwolves scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

OV scored two more in the sixth for the 8-3 win. Read More

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
