A four run sixth inning Redskin rally came up short in a 10-4 loss against Central A&M April 15. Sullivan starter Tommy Schibur battled against tough luck and a small strike zone all day while the Raiders’ starter allowed just one hit over the first five innings.

Sullivan head coach Troy Rogers said before the game shortstop Brett Tuttle had to be removed from lineup due to possible injury. “We are waiting to hear because we don’t want it to get worse until we find out for sure. I talked it over with my seniors and asked what they thought. We came up with a game plan.”

The Raiders got to Schibur in the first inning after a dying quail fell for a base hit to right field to bring home the game’s first run. A walk followed and the Raiders capitalized with an RBI single to make it 2-0. An infield single loaded the bases, and a second walk brought home a third run.  Schibur notched a big strikeout to end the inning and limit the damage.  However, the Raiders scratched across another run in the second inning to make it 4-0. Coach Rogers commented that Central AM makes you pay for mistakes. “They did a good job of getting runners on and they are fast. They do a good job putting pressure on your defense. That was Hrvol’s first start at third all year. I had to bring up Dalton Rogers who is a freshman to play second, and that was a last minute change.”   Read More

The Redskins baseball team beat the Shelbyville Rams 5-1, improving Sullivan’s record to 9-3 and 3-1 in the conference.

Pitcher Zach Hrvol went the distance striking out 12. He threw 64 strikes in 91 pitches, allowing one run on six hits and one base on balls.

Coach Troy Rogers pointed out several great plays on defense made the win possible. That included Alec Ballinger throwing one out at the plate and making a game saving catch.

Tom Schibur made a throw to cut a runner down at home and followed it up with a diving stop to save a run for a great all around team effort and win. Read More

Charleston’s 11 run second inning was more than the Sullivan Redskin baseball team could recover from in the 16-3 home loss April 14.

After no score in the first, the Trojans went on a hitting steak that knocked Redskin pitcher Zach Sowers off the mound after two innings. Austin Minnegerode relieved for 1.1 innings as the Charleston team kept hitting. Alec Ballinger finished the game in 1.2 innings getting four strikeouts.

Charleston added two in the second and three in the fourth for 16, with the Redskins scoring a run in the fourth and two in the fifth inning. Read More

Sullivan’s 9-3 win over St. Teresa Thursday came with a blast of runs during the seventh inning.

“A lead off walk followed by a great bunt Blake Stewart turned into a hit,” coach Troy Rogers said started the six-run seventh inning.

“Then a ground ball by Ballinger, followed by Tuttle putting one in a perfect spot to prevent a play and score a run,” Rogers continued.

Zach Hrvol walked, then Bryce Farris lined a single to score two.

“We just finally put a good inning together,” he said.

It was a battle of pitchers for most of the game on the Bulldog’s diamond with Tom Schibur holding St. Teresa to three in five innings. Schibur had six strikeouts, allowing three base on balls  and three hits.

Brett Tuttle got the win, pitching two innings, with three strikeouts, while allowing one hit. Read More
