Overtime Win for Lady Knights Over Chrisman

Megan Fifer’s 26 points were among her best scoring nights and helped boost the Lady Knights to a 62-54 win over Chrisman’s Cardinals Dec. 22.

The Lady Cardinals led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter. Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond came back with a 19 point second quarter over Chrisman’s 12, to go into the half ahead 27-25.

One point separated third quarter scores with Chrisman edging ALAH 14-13. The Lady Knight one point edge disappeared as the two were tied at the end of regular play at 48.

Overtime was dominated by ALAH  with Janette Comstock, Hannah Wallen and Fifer scoring 12 to the Chrisman team’s six points.

Fifer’s scoring lead for the Lady Knights included eight field goals, one three pointer and seven free shots for 26; Hannah Wallen had six field goals, one three pointer and three free throws for 18 points; Liz Shipman hit two from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line for eight points; Logan Kauffman hit one three point shot; Janette Comstock made a field goal and a free throw for three points; Payton Wellbaum hit a field goal for two points; Marissa Herschberger scored a field goal.

Chrisman was led by A. Bush with 26 points; Eddy scored nine points; K. Bush seven points; Switzer scored six points ; Ingram had four points and Watters added two to complete Cardinal scoring.

Sullivan Redskin Football Players Make All Area Team

The Sullivan Redskin football team was recently honored in the Decatur Herald and Review All Area team selection with a representative on the first team.

Head Redskin football coach Gerald Temples noted that Alec Ballinger was not only select for the Herald and Review All Area first team, he was also selected as wide receiver on the Shriner All Star football team that plays during the summer. Read More

OV Over Maroa-Forsyth in Tourney Play

In the Okaw Valley girls’ basketball tournament the Lady Timberwolves beat Maroa-Forsyth 47-38.

The Lady Trojans matched Okaw Valley 9-9 in the first quarter and outscored the Lady Timberwolves 10-8 going into the half leading 19-17.

Okaw Valley came back after the half with a 14-9 third quarter and took the momentum into the fourth. In the final quarter the Lady Timberwolves outscored the Lady Trojans 16-10 for the win. Read More

The Knights Holiday Classic is Underway

The Knights Holiday Classic is underway with Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond winning 50-22 over Shelbyville.

With Hannah Wallen hitting five field goals the Lady Knights went into a commanding 24-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Rams gained composure scoring 6-6 with the ALAH team in the second quarter. The Lady Knights went into the half ahead 30-9. Third quarter action had the ALAH team scoring 9-4 over Shelbyville and finishing the fourth quarter scoring 11 -9 over the Lady Rams for the win. Read More

Sullivan Redskins Take Arcola Purple Riders

The Sullivan Redskins took a 61-54 home court win over the Arcola Purple Riders Tuesday,  December 15.

Head coach Chester Reeder noted the 5-2 Sullivan team had 27 rebounds with Ty Molzen pulling down 14 to help the effort.

The Redskins were 9-5 in the first quarter over the Purple Riders, who came back strong in the second quarter with a 16-9 run.

Sullivan was down 21-18 at halftime They scored 18 points in the third quarter to Arcola’s nine. Both teams were scoring by the fourth with a 25-24 quarter for the Redskins to end the game.

Molzen was also able to hit seven field goals and eight free throws for 22 points. Zach Hrvol stepped in with three field goals, two three point shots and two from the free stripe for 14 points. Read More

Knights Handle Decatur Christian Team

Decatur Christian traveled to Arthur Tuesday where the Knights won 49-8.

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond team hit 23 of 40 from the field for  57 percent shooting and shot 75 percent from the free throw line hitting three of four as a team.

The Warriors shot just 15 percent from the field hitting three of 19 and 14 percent from the free stripe making one of seven. Turnovers were a problem for the Decatur Christian team as they had 21 to the Redskins 10.  Sullivan capitalized on turnover points with 20.

The Knights started strong with an 18-1 first quarter lead over the Warriors. The run continued into the second quarter adding 11 more points to Decatur Christian’s two . ALAH started the third quarter ahead  29-3. Warriors scored three to 12 in the third and two to eight points in the fourth to round out scoring. Read More

Strong Second Half Not Enough for Lady Redskins

The Meridian Lady Hawks capitalized on a strong first half to beat the Lady Redskins 36-29, December 19.

“We played a great second half and outscored them 16-10,” coach Sheri McCain said. “But unfortunately we dug ourselves a hole in the first half, giving up 26 points, including four three pointers.”

Merdian’s Amy AuKamp had two three pointers, Chloe Herbert scored two three pointers and Hannah Wetzel contributed one for the Lady Hawks.

Lady Redskin Lizzie Green scored a three pointer and a field goal for five points; Brooke Tuttle had two field goals and two free throws for six points plus adding two steals; Chloe Riley and Ester Miller scored four points apiece from a field goal and two free shots each. Lady Knights Lose to St. Anthony

A cold first quarter was too much for the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Lady Knights to recover from in their 57-25 loss to St. Anthony in Effingham, Dec. 19.

Lady Saints had a 15-0 first quarter and a 14-11 second quarter to go into the half ahead 29-11. The Lady Knights scored eight in the third to St. Anthony’s 13 points. In the fourth quarter the Lady Saints outscored the Lady Knights 15-6 for the win.  Read More

Monticello Team Dominates Sullivan Redskins

Sullivan Redskins basketball took a 55-30 loss from a larger Monticello Sage team December 18.

Sullivan kept up the battle of the backboards throughout the game, getting 21 for the night, led by 5’10” senior guard Kaleb Shumard with six. The Sages had 24 rebounds led by Winterbottom with seven.

The Sages started out the first quarter with an 11 to five advantage over the Redskins team. In the second Sullivan scored another three points to Monticello’s 15, heading into the half 26-8 Sages.

In the third quarter Redskins scoring improved to 12, with Monticello getting 14. By the fourth quarter the Sages maintained momentum, outscoring the Redskins 15-10.

Six foot senior guard Eric Keller led Sullivan scoring with one field goal and two three points shots for eight. Read More

ALAH Knights Fall to Cumberland Pirates

Cumberland’s Pirates scored 54 to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond’s Knights 22 during a home game December 11.

In the first quarter the Knights scored six points to Cumberland’s 11. In the second quarter the Pirates dominated, scoring 17 points to zero for ALAH, putting the halftime score at 28-6.

The Knights scored 11 to the Pirates 19 in the third quarter. ALAH scored five points to Cumberland’s seven points in the final quarter.

A field goal shooting percentage of 24 compared to Cumberland’s 56 percent  shooting from the field was a hinderance to the Knight team. Read More

Poppies to honor those who gave all

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
