Sullivan’s volleyball Redskins came out strong against the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights in Arthur, Sept 14 with a 26-24 win. The tide turned for the Knights in the second game 21-25, with the ALAH squad putting away the match 18-25.

“Tonight the varsity Redskins came out ready to play,” coach Krista Smith said of the effort. “We did not close the win. A big thanks to our fans for traveling to Arthur and supporting us.”

Smith pointed out that middles Chloe Riley and Ally Elzy provided powerful hits and well-timed blocks. Riley and Elzy had two blocks apiece.

Setters Abby Elzy and Esther Miller picked up passes becoming assets to a stronger offense, Smith said.

Tiffany Wallis had five kills and Ally Elzy three; Abby Elzy had five assists and  Miller four.

Seleste Smith provided three aces and 18 digs; Alyssa Marshall had ten digs. Read More

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights volleyball added a win to the season after traveling to Martinsville Sept. 8.

The Knights took the first game 25-22, lost the second 24-26 and rallied in the third game winning 25-21. The varsity record is 2-3 with a 1-0 conference record. Read More

Sullivan Okaw Valley Ladies’ Cross Country team finished first at the Sept 8 Quad Meet held in Tabor Park.

The ladies final was 35 followed by Central A&M with 41 and Tuscola 44.

In the individual times Salena Sloan of Central A&M was first with a 22:06.

SOV runner Ashlynd Risley was second with a 22:48 followed by teammate Cadisen Nuzzo at third with a 23:44.

Morgan Day and Megan Quick of Tuscola ran fourth and fifth respectively with 24:29 and 24:38 times.

Erin Forlines (CAM) was sixth with 24:47. Mariah Lemay from Tuscola was seventh at 25:02. Read More

Saturday night the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights volleyball classic was held in Arthur with Sangamon Valley coming out on top.

Bement finished second, the Knights third and Villa Grove fourth. The ALAH Knights have a 5-4 record overall.

The Knights beat Villa Grove 25-15 and 25-16. Sangamon Valley bested the Knights 13-25 and 23-25 with Bement taking second after a 17-25 loss and 25-11 win and 15-23 loss. Read More

Shelby Dash of Bethany is a member of the Central College volleyball team. A defensive specialist, she is a sophomore.

Central has won 12 Iowa Conference titles in the past 19 years and gained 11 NCAA Division III playoff berths, with three national championships. Coach Kent Clayberg is a three-time league coach of the year and is in his 13th season as head coach. He has a 261-148 (.638) career mark.

The Dutch opened the season at home Sept. 1 against Monmouth (Ill.)
