Game ends in overtime thriller over CGB

by Kirk Whitaker
Arthur/Sullivan Reporter

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond held an 18-9 lead at the end of the first quarter Saturday against Cerro Gordo-Bement, and early on it was Karly Goodman’s game for the Lancers. The senior lead ALAH with 10 of her 30 in the first quarter alone along with two 3-pointers from Sherelle Coller for the Lancers’ hot start.

“I haven’t been hitting lately,” Goodman said. “It felt like the rim gave a little more than normal if that makes sense, but scoring 10 in the first was nice. I was glad to get my shot better.”

After leading 25-9 in the second, the Lancers seemed to let down, as CGB got multiple turnovers with a half-court trap defense and closed the half on a 14-4 run.

“We got to the baseline and moved around well on offense, and the points were coming well,” Lancers head coach Craig Moffett stated. “In the second half we became stagnant, and we had unforced errors in the second half. Their big girls made some shots, and 30 (Stephanie Shook) is a good player.” Read More

“It was frustrating,” Lancers head coach Craig Moffett said in regard to his team’s early foul trouble in their 49-43 loss to Shiloh. “It was just a helpless feeling as a coach—I remember feeling it as a player—it was just one of those nights. Some were legitimate, questionable, or just silly on our part.”

The first fouls hurt the most. Both were on the same girl– senior post player Karly Goodman. Read More
