The Sullivan Redskins still hold a winning record of 10-8 (3-2 in conference play). They play every game with tenacity, led by their enthusiastic coach Spencer Plank. Their record is somewhat misgiving though as many of those losses have been close games.

Cerro Gordo/Bement

The game last week against CGB was another one of those close ones. Sullivan was always within reach, but they could not quite bring the game even. The Broncos took the lead early on and held it, barely, for the entire game.

The Sullivan Redskins had an amazing holiday tournament in Dieterich. After securing three strong wins over the weekend after Christmas, the boys fell in the championship against the host Movin’ Maroons in a close game. They had to shake that off though as their regular season resumed last week.

Unity Christian

The Lions of Unity Christian are a regularly formidable opponent on the basketball court. This year is no different. They have only lost three games this year. Sullivan was hoping to hand them their fourth loss.

A split week for the Lady Redskins

News Progress Posted on January 14, 2026 by webmasterJanuary 14, 2026

by E. Scott England

After going 2-2 in the Coles County Holiday Tournament, the Lady Redskins were happy to get back to their regularly scheduled season. Of course, the regularly scheduled season includes some pretty tough opponents.

On the road at St. Joe-Ogden

The St. Joseph-Ogden Lady Spartans did not have a great winter break. While they did secure a win over Rochester after Christmas, they also had a couple of bad beats. Then their regular season resumed and they were delivered another tough loss. So when they hosted Sullivan, they were looking for redemption. The Lady Redskins had other plans.

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) recently sent out a referendum ballot to the 802 member high schools. Twelve bylaw changes were on the ballot with all twelve being approved. Several proposed changes were a little controversial, with changes to the 2026 high school playoffs leading the charge.

Over 90% of the districts voted on the proposed change, with 377 voting yes, 252 voting no, and 96 choosing to abstain or not vote. The playoff expansion, set to go into effect next season, expands the number of teams per class from 32 to 48. Adding the additional sixteen teams per class raises the number of teams from 256 to 384 in the playoffs.

Two more conference wins for Lady Redskins

News Progress Posted on December 23, 2025 by webmasterDecember 23, 2025

•December 24, 2025•

by E. Scott England

The Sullivan Lady Redskins continued their dominance of the Lincoln Prairie conference last week. They hold the top spot with a record of 4-0 in conference play. The first game of the week was against the ALAH Lady Knights. The week wrapped up on the road against the Unity Christian Lady Lions.

Home against ALAH

ALAH came to Sullivan riding on the heels of their victory against Heritage. A smaller team with not a lot of depth on the bench, the Lady Knights struggled from the start against Sullivan and their widely rotated roster. The Lady Redskins started strong with a full pressure defense that led to many pass deflections, steals, and blocks. They held ALAH to just three points in the first quarter and seven points in the second quarter.
