Lovington Village Board terminated officer Rick Levine at the regular meeting on July 9.
Levine, a Lovington police officer, appeared before the village board along with attorney Richard Blass.
Blass asked the board for the reasons for taking action and copies so he could address them. He was referred to the attorney handling the matter.
Dennis Garmon moved to terminate Levine based on recommendation of the village attorney, chief of police and police trustee Pam Anklam. Brenda Wood, Garmon and Gary Clem voted to terminate. April Daily voted against the motion, and Anklam abstained.
Anklam reported that Nick Martina and Sean Lang will fill in the hours previously worked by Levine for now.
During a special meeting July 2 the village board moved to proceed with water system improvements recommended by the Farnsworth Group.
During that meeting president Roger Walker reported citizens had requested the Christmas tree be placed in the middle of downtown Lovington again this year. Following discussion Anklam made the motion, seconded by Daily to put the Christmas tree in the middle of downtown which was approved by those present.
Building and grounds trustee Brenda Wood reported downtown flags need replacement, poles repainted and unnecessary wires removed. She will get bids for the 12 flags and look into getting the sidewalks edged in the park.
President Walker asked Wood to get the village workers to reinstall the “Solicitor” signs
Attending the meetings were President Walker, Brenda Wood, Pam Anklam, Dennis Garmon, Gary Clem, April Daily and clerk Alma Fair.
