Four Area Student Musicians Participate in ILMEA Conference
February 11, 2015
Four Area High School Musicians Participated in the Illinois Music Education Conference (ILMEA) held recently in the Peoria Civic Center. Students were selected via an audition process from the district IMEA festival held last fall at Eastern Illinois University.
Zac Mayberry, son of Steve and Amanda Mayberry, a senior at Sullivan High School, played bass clarinet with the All-State Band; Okaw Valley High School junior Nick Tipsword, son of Stan and Kathy Tipsword of Bethany, was a member of the All-State Orchestra on French horn and Bradley Miller and David Rosenbaum, students at Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond High School, participated in the choral concerts. Miller, a junior and the son of Ed and Ruth Miller of Arthur, sang with the Honors Chorus and Rosenbaum, a senior, was in the All-State Chorus. He is the son of Katherine Rosenbaum of Arthur.
During the festival weekend, the young musicians attended numerous rehearsals and performed concerts in the Civic Center. Selection to participate in the festival is the highest honor a junior or senior musician in high school may achieve.
Local band directors are Ryan Krapf, Sullivan High School and Teresa Colclasure, Okaw Valley High School. Stephen McClarey is choral director with Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond High School.
