Free Property Fraud Alert

Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England urges county residents to take advantage of a new, free service offered by her office to help protect people against property fraud. People may sign up though the county’s website at www.moultriecountyil.com to receive Property Fraud Alerts, an automated database that monitors activity involving land records filed in the Moultrie County Clerk and Recorder’s office.
“The best protection we can offer against property fraud is proactive protection,” England said. “Having the Property Fraud Alert service will make Moultrie County less attractive to criminals and is in the best interest of the community.”
The service does not prevent activity from happening; however, it does immediately notify individuals when transactions involving their property have been recorded in the County Clerk and Recorder’s office. It is then up to the individual to contact the Moultrie County Clerk and Recorder’s office to determine whether the activity is fraudulent.
Time is of the essence when fraudulent activity has occurred, saving an individual from undue stress and monetary loss to recover their property and/or identity.
This service is easy to sign up for, and it is free. It offers a little extra peace of mind with just a few clicks of the computer. Those having no internet access may contact the Clerk and Recorder’s office at 217-728-4389. Staff will then enter the caller’s information into the system.
The free service and database are managed and maintained by Fidlar Technologies, the county’s software provider for land records.
