Guillory Presenting on Lincoln and Civil War Tuesday
On Tuesday evening, March 11, at 6:30 p.m., at the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library, Dr. Dan Guillory, Professor Emeritus at Millikin University, will present a program entitled “Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War.” The talk will focus on such topics as the famous battles and generals of the War, the technology employed by the North and South, the use of African-American soldiers, the medical practices of the day, the secret enlistment of women in the Northern ranks, popular songs of the era, and the “Imperial Presidency” adopted by Lincoln. The conclusion will draw parallels between the politics of 1861 and today. Although the program will begin at 6:30 p.m., audience members who arrive 15 minutes early will be treated to some recorded Civil War music. A book-signing will follow the event.
