The Illinois Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently provided approximately 200 high school students and their Family & Consumer Sciences teachers a training on how to be positive, effective leaders in their homes, schools, and communities. The training which is called the Ignite Conference was held on Sunday, October 1, and Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Northfield Inn/ Conference Center, Springfield, IL. The main topics that were emphasized were leadership skills, professionalism, and community service.
Two keynote presentations were provided by Mr. Blake Bradley of Elverado, IL. and Mr. Kaleb Smith from Edwardsville, IL. The students participated in a variety of workshop sessions including “Professional Dress” and “Preparing for the Real World”. The teachers in attendance were given the opportunity to participate in professional development sessions. One of the sessions which focused on “Temperament in the Classroom” was led by Brittney Bauer of West Chicago High School. The teachers and students focused on and set goals for their Program of Work, FCCLA Week Activities, and their Community Service projects for the school year. Each FCCLA chapter will conduct projects in their home communities and high schools during the current school year using the information that they gathered at the training.
