•May 31, 2017•
Moultrie County real estate taxes were mailed May 26. The first installment is due June 30, 2017 and the second installment on September 1, 2017.
Residents should look over their tax bills and make sure all of the information is correct. Read the back of the tax bill. It is the responsibility of the property owner to report all address changes to the assessor’s office at 728-4951.
Assessment and exemption questions should be directed to the supervisor of assessments office.
Taxes may be paid at any bank in Moultrie County, Scott State Bank and First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust in Mt. Zion and online at www.govtechtaxpro.com. The collector’s office accepts postmark date of payment so payments may be mailed to Moultrie County Collector, 10 S. Main Suite 10, Sullivan, IL. 61951. Those waiting to mail their payment on the due date may want to have the post office hand cancel the stamp. Post-dated checks are not accepted. If a receipt is desired when mailing payments, include a self-addressed stamped envelope and the entire tax bill. Payments may also be made in the county collector’s office on the second floor of the courthouse. If the original tax bill is not available, a $1 duplicate bill fee will be charged. Those who have their tax bill and are paying by check may pay in the planning office on the first floor. Their hours are subject to changes but normally are Monday-Friday 8:30-12 and 1-4:30. Credit card payments are accepted online only.
After the due dates, there is a penalty charge of 1-1/2 percent per month or any part of a month in which the installment remains delinquent.
Those receiving their tax bill and the taxes are to be paid by a mortgage/escrow company must forward a copy of the bill to the company for a timely payment.
Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve a taxpayer from their tax liability. Homeowners who do not receive a tax bill or have any questions should call the treasurer’s office at 728-4032.
